I know it's been done... on the ACS board, right? Are you going to draw the same or different version of it?

Firstly, I don't understand why people say that a browser loading image files as .txt files is a GOOD thing. Seems a bit odd, ne? Internet Explorer is smart enough to recognise when a .txt file is actually a .jpg or whatever file, but that doesn't mean it's accidently going to make a proper .txt file into a .jpg file, is it? Not as far as I know, anyway...

Anyway. I'm with Legion on this. I had similar problems as he did while using Firefox. It was slower, the interface was annoying and cluttered. Maybe that's because of lots of extentions or something, but... It seems like far too much effort for very very little gain. IE is very fast, loads up in about five seconds or less (which is useful because I'm always opening new windows and closing them), it's .gif files run at a reasonable speed (they're painfully slow in Firefox). It's browsing is smooth and the scrolling is nicer. The menus are simple and logical.

So, yeah, I can't see some transparency things with some .png files. Big whoop, they're as rare as heck anyway...

I'll stick with what I've got. It's just alot easier that way. Plus it saves on my precious memory.

Ctrl + f5 on this thread;
IE: 32seconds
Firefox: 10seconds.
Yes I was logged in on both, and even if it would be the opposite firefox would be better since it renders on the fly instead of waiting for everything to be loaded before showing

I got used to Firefox really quickly, I love it. I've never used a better browser. And the fact that I get a chance to code properly for standardscompliant browsers instead of IE's infuriating 'standards'.

And it even has a download manager inbuilt, you might say that "oh I can get that for IE too", ofcourse you can, but installing 3rd party programs to hogg the browser and make everything slower? Is that so very bright?

For the record, IE usually starts quicker with about a second, it didn't now though, firefox was about a second quicker. And to add to that, IE is with the shell.

edit: Ever wondered WHY png's are so rare? I'd definately use them more if IE would support transperancy. PNG has no quality loss and it's a big space-saver.
I don't see how the interface is cluttered, it's basic, very basic, the menues are very logical, infact, they aren't much different from IE's menues.
Can't comment on the gif animation thing, I've never had a problem with it. I don't see anything wrong with any gif animations used on the board. Nor on the fast one about the stick beating up that wall.

Thirty two seconds!? Man, what computer are you using? That seems crazy. My computer loads this page with a refresh in about, 8 seconds or so? I'm using IE, nothing special... Broadband. Firefox seemed to take longer when I used it.

EDIT: Really? Most people I've heard from definitely notice a lack of speed from .gif animations in Firefox... I know I did. Oh well.

gas prices have fallen, which is good news for 90% of the U.S. Gas in california is still averaging higher than $2.00 (or well, at least still in the SF Bay Area )

And yes, U.S. still pays the cheapest gas in the world. If $5 isn't bad, how about $11/gallon in several nations on the African continent

(Note the edit I made in my previous post)

Did you do ctrl+5? Refreshing without cache? And you got layouts on? Numgraphics on?

0.5mbit broadband, xp1800+, 512ddram.
Refreshing normally takes a splitsecond.

Fyxe in your case it's a slow computer. Firefox is only fast on newer computers.

Heck, you had desync problems on many flash movies. When I tested them on my 400 Mhz I got no syncing problems at all with flash movies.

So I wouldn't reccomend Firefox to old computers, but that's the only thing I find bad about Firefox. That it get slow on older computers.

Yeah, yeah, I used ctrl+5. And layouts and stuff. Internet Explorer was nowhere near 32 seconds, anyway. O.o''

My computer ain't *that* old. Um... Where the hell would I go to find out the speed of my computer, anyway?

But don't let that scare you 400mhz is old, deadold, nothing should work on stuff like that anyway, and if it does, you're in luck. Even on the schoolcomp I had (celeron 733 (NO-CACHE CPU!111) and 256sdram) firefox loaded quicker than IE, pages too.

Edit: It depends alot on the layouts, mostly actually. Since we live far away from eachother you have closer to some layouts and I have to some others. Imood takes pretty long actually, since it has to check with another db and yada. No use for it anyway
If you got WinXP, right click on my computer and take properties. If you don't have XP then see what it says when you start up the comp, it should say then, unless you got a dell comp or something with their own boot screen

The speed of your computer? Try going into system properties. That could work if you either go into the control panel, or if you right-click on My Computer and go to properties. That might work.

Well but it seems very slow as you had syncing problems with alot of flash movies. It does have Win98 right?

There is testing utilities for testing how fast a computer can be, but I know none top of my head.

Heck on my 400 Mhz, I had no syncing problems. And I did run the flash in Firefox to even.

I have a 300 Mhz computer, I test Firefox on that one and see if I get problems...

Fyxe if you ever get a better computer, try it on that one. And how old is the computer really?
