not bad...

even if someone was fooled by this, it won't be long until he will no longer be effective since the negative ratings will hurt him.

i wouldn't be surprised if something like this was found in the southeast pacific or something

the only place I've seen the .txt extension doesn't work is in mozilla. If you read a .txt image in mozilla, you will get the ascii form of the image. However, if you use IE, then IE is smart enough to realize this.

So it seems, IE has its usefulness...heh

if only theyd have it get the type from the file itself instead of the file extension. speaking of extensions, since this is a rather common thing, there might be an extension for mozilla to fix that...

Legion, IE is a POS browser on Macintosh (at least I heard that from Macintosh people). And Yoshi dude is a Macintosh hippie.

I think it's how Mozilla and IE reads site, they work diffrent it seems.

I use Firefox, but that's becuse how it loads Images and CSS. IE seems to have trouble sometimes with reading CSS.

Mozilla [Firefox] conforms to the HTTP1.1 standard. If the Content-type sent by the server is "text/plain", then it will show it as text, as it's supposed to. It doesn't give shit about extensions or anything.

IE, on the other hand, does not conform to the HTTP standard. It's really annoying when you make an HTML document .txt so you can show people the source immediately, but in IE it will parse the document as HTML. This is bad. (This is an example that seems to make more sense to people than the image one :/)

CSS problems tend to happen when it fails to load [coughwootestcough].

The page just completely fucks up [leaving wierd trails if you try and scroll it] because IE jsut sucks.

And I'm pretty sure they stopped IE for Mac develompent... am I wrong? Can someone verify this?

But on the whole .txt thing, Opera's ahead of Mozilla.

Again.

Well sometimes on this board the CSS layouts takes forever to load in IE (and without any good reason sometimes ), why it takes forever in IE, but not in Firefox is a mystery for me. Firefox seems to handle CSS layouts better when they are down to.

And there is IE for Macintosh, I think it's not supported anymore thought.

The only layout that I've had a problem loading here is yours. Funny that should come up.

What's odd: The IE for Mac completely supports the PNG format. Yet, the Windows version still doesn't support most of PNG's features. WTF?

The problem is, it doesn't work for a lot of people. The whole POINT of making an extension .txt is to use image linking.. if you're not going to image link, why make it where many users cannot view your image? It's stupid.

Maybe they should drop the P.O.S. browser they're using.

I don't think that the browsers those people use fall into the POS category.

Don't forget, this is an EXPLOIT.
This is quite possibly the best thing Colleen has ever said. Seeing to all technical aspects, it IS an exploit. It was probably not patched and it's now being abused by people with crappy hosting or image generators too much to be taken out. Good job.

The fact is, that IE by using this behavior it's doing the wrong thing. Mozilla is aimed at getting all these standards right and is not likely to break pretty basic file type handling just so some cheap ass can save three bucks per month.

Regarding POS:
- Mozilla has been continually updated for the last six years about every other month. IE 6.0 was out in early 2002, and the next MINOR update will be 6.05 which will be XP SP2 only. It will only be used to patch flaws or exploits.
-
That above us is an alpha transparent PNG. Alpha transparent PNGs have been around more or less since 1995. It was implemented in the first 10 months of the Mozilla project, but it's not yet implemented into IE. This is a good example of how slow IE is to adopt these things that would be pretty neat.

Empty your mind. Save your favorites/bookmarks to a file. Download Mozilla Firefox and use it for two weeks. If you still think it's a POS, then you will atleast have tried it, and you will not just be some whineass whose logic goes "if I'm too lazy to try it, it surely must suck".

And that's an example of a nice alpha channel gradient in PNG. (IE people can't see it correctly)

Nice i am a wootest badge there. Showed up flawlessly in my brower. Oh, that would be IE by the way.

Oh, and for your information, Firefox blows. It loads pages slower than IE and has a bunch of unncessary plug-ins. The whole "plug-ins" arguement doesn't count. 98% of them are useless bullshit. Oh wow, I have a plug-in that tells what time it is in Guatamala! FIREFOX FUCKING OWNS YOUR ASS!!11

"Download Mozilla Firefox and use it for two weeks. "

I only tried it for one week. Why only one week? Because the damn thing broke on me. It wont load ANYTHING now. Fluke? Nope. Happened twice. Goodbye Firefox, nice try.

The only thing I found that gave it some saving grace was tabbed browsing. But that's about it.
