I know I am not a mod, but I thought this should be addressed, as it does seem to be a problem quite a bit lately. The way people respond to screenshots here is far from polite. I know what your thinking, "Why the hell should they care what I think anyway?" Well, if they posted screenshots, and ended their post with "Comments anyone?" then yeah, they want to know what everyone thinks. So just try to be a little kinder. Let's look at a few responses, and see if they are good or bad:

"I think your hack is even more crap" - OK, why would someone post this? It makes no sense, even if the hack is crap, if you don't like someones hack, or a person in particular, dont play it, you dont have to play EVERY hack that comes out. Now, if that post had criticism as to why he thought it was crap, it would have been a little better, but saying it was crap would still be unneeded.

Basically, criticism should be to the point, and not bordering on flaming. When you are bordering on flaming, it is really easy to fall in.

I agree... Maybe there should be one or two more mods here that's specialized on "no bad comments on hacks"?

I agree completely. If there's something maybe you don't like... you could tell them, like a strange background, for example, but flaming is... bad.

Sometimes criticism is harsh, I agree, but not everything has to be peaches and cream. Only outright flaming has no use.

Here's a good question.

Is my post in this thread flaming, or just being very harsh?

Hmm...

Being honest helps more than wrong criticism:
A really bad screenshot should be rated "That screen sucks. The tiles left from the water don't fit from the colors and the mis-shaped ExGFX from the right makes my eyes bleeding" helps more than "Well, the screen is not that bad, but you need to improve it a little, will 'ya ?"
As long as does not come to flame, it should be okay. But most important:
The post should HELP and show mistakes and HINTS

agree. if someone wants to say that the screens are bad, fine. but this person has to say why he/she has that opinion and give suggestions to make the game he/she criticized looks better.

I've got an idea... A "Report Flame" link, next to "Quote". It sends the post to some kind of PM inbox that all of that forum's mods and the admins can read.
Abuse of this system would cause a temp ban.

Generally I try to point out what's wrong with the picture (bad palette, BG doesn't fit, etc), but sometimes it's just plain ugly.

I personally believe that harsh comments (NOT flames) are fine, but ONLY if you offer suggestions for improvement along with them. You can't tell someone their hack sucks and expect them to automatically know what's wrong with it...you have to point them in the right direction.

From now on, I'll be keeping an eye out for negative comments without accompanying suggestions, and taking action against them as necessary. Let's try to remain as helpful as possible here!

Personally I have seen well little to harsh comments about someone's hack. It's quite easy making "critical comments" about a hack without being harsh. Like refraining from swearing.
