Well it would seem, in order to compete with all the free email services offering ungodly amounts of space, that Yahoo has decided to compete. Instead of 6MB, I now have a whopping 100MB of space, with up to 10MB of attatchments per message. W00t! A problem arises, though. NOTHING WORKS! None of the buttons anywhere do anything. A quick look at the source code shows plenty of what appears to be IE-only code. WTF?

I have seen alot of pointy one word posts, his wasn't one of them.

Hyperhacker, did you test it under IE to?

The problem with using IE only code, not everyone is using IE nowdays. Sure most people do, but the amount of people using IE decreases over time it seems.

Heh...you think you had it bad...shit...

We have Yahoo! SBC DSL service and...the day before the 100 meg upgrade to EVERY Yahoo! email account...we got a rather funny email from them...lemme pull it up; I'll paste the first paragraph:

'You are currently exceeding your Yahoo! Mail storage quota by a very large amount. You are only allowed -2048.0MB of storage but you are currently using 0.0MB of storage. Your account has been temporarily disabled from receiving new messages.'

...Okay...how in the fuck can you have a storage quota of NEGATIVE two gigabytes?

Luckily...nothing seemed to come of it...just server glitching, I guess. So...we got the same 100MB email but then we also got one for our Mail Plus which gives us 2GB for email. Like we'll ever need that unless we put the Bible in a Word doc and copy it a thousand times.

I went to www.yahoo.com, signed up, the page directed me somehow to the German service yahoo.de, but since also the German version now offers 100 MB of space (it shows me "0% von 100.0MB" in my inbox, though ), I can say:

It works in Firefox, but I needed to set the signup-page on "bypass" inside the Proxomitron, because the web content filter sorted out the sign-up button for the free service (but for a weird reason the button for the pay-service stood visible ).

As for you; bypass the Proxomitron that time you log in (or simply set up a email client to download all the mails from the server), HH, or switch the browser

Well that's getting me a lot of prompts to re-enter my password and pages that take forever to load, that's about it. Some of the buttons work now, but Send of course does nothing. And if I try to do bypass on that page? Oops, TIME TO LOG THE HELL IN AGAIN.

For those of us who use I.E.,
This addition makes us go "wee!"
And we are happy to have more space
So that we can have more room in our place;
Although more room means more spam
And that makes me always go "damn!"
But now I can send some bigger files
Like ROMs to people, or viruses to the vile.
Not that I actually would do the latter;
Who do you think I am, the mad hatter?

Gmail gives you ten times that, and it supports almost all browsers, which means that Google is both richer and smarter than Yahoo. Owned.

W-hat

Yahoo's been in the Internet/Advertisement business for about 10 years, AND the offer MUCH more than Google ever will or could. How does Google launching a mail service with a useless amount of space create the illusion that Google's both smarter and richer?

Sure, Google has some damn awesome things under their belt, but Yahoo is still the most useful website on the Internet.

(btw, stop using Mozilla, and all your problems go away! )

However, will Gmail really be free once it is no longer in beta? that is the question i would like to see answered...anyways, Gmail seems promising since it is run by google...but even then google is starting to become the next yahoo...

First of all, "stop using Mozilla, and all your problems go away!" is as poignant and useful as "Quit your job and you won't be underpaid or risk getting fired".

Look at Yahoo's front page. Then look at Google's front page. Google's is much cleaner, because they only create services that make sense to them as an immediate goal. I'm pretty sure Google makes more money from their own text-based ads than Yahoo does from its big distracting image ads.

How the money argument came up in the first place? Gmail is free, and will be free. And if one user will have one GB, and say three million people sign up, that's a lot of disk space that will have to be bought.

"AND the offer MUCH more than Google ever will or could"
Keyword here is could. Google could make most of this if not all of this if they wanted to. However, take Gmail for example, they rigorously beta test everything (third month and running). Yahoo clearly doesn't beta test very much, seeming as how about a tenth of the Internet (not running IE/Win) is left with a buggy webmail.

And we haven't even gotten to the point yet where I argue that they just do information management. Webmail, search, weblogging app, usenet groups, filtered news. There's no java games in here. It's not needed, and it's way out of their field.

Bleh, Yahoo got a bigger MB thingy? I haven't even noticed I don't check my mail much so yeah. I made Yahoo the home page thinking it won't attack me with pop ups like the regular one but it still does from time to time I don't really care how much space I have since I don't get much e-mail. I have 1% used and I delete all the junk mail I get. That's enough for me

Ok Yahoo overall is just one of those annoying ass web companys just like Tripod and oh so many others, they give you crappy services and a bunch of BS. I would definitely reccomend Gmail take a look at Google's homepage, simple page for simple ppl or damn easy navigation. Also the reason many ppl dont use IE is because its simply too easy to take advantage of.
