The horse, 24 out of 25 times, apparantly. However, the other day, Huw Lobb made history, as he became the first two-legged creature to win the prestigeous Welsh Man vs. Horse race. I still really can't believe it, I thought it'd be impossible for a man to outrun a horse.

Eh? Humans are getting faster all the time. I heard the new record was 32-something miles per hour. Horses generally go about half that at a nice pace, and could probably get up to it at a run. So if you've got a really fast guy against a merely average horse, the guy wins.

I read about that the other day.
It's amazing what humans can do when they make up their minds to do it... makes me wonder what the ultimate limits for humans really are?

Humans are getting faster because we evolve, but animals evolve, too. They also evolve quicker, because specific breeding of strong animals are allowed (while you can't do that to human beings). The quarter horse, a horse breed bred to go at a really fast pace over a quarter mile, can go at 47.5 mph. A guy running at 32 mph wouldn't exactly be able to keep it up for a long time, it'd be over a short distance. This race was a very long race, and no man would be able to keep up anything near 32 mph over this distance. Horses also have higher stamina than men, so I really don't see how the man can have done it. And you can't say the horse was in poor shape, or had a bad day. 20 horses were in that race.

I just don't understand how it was possible that the man won.

Well... he cheated, or he managed to somehow maintain a constant speed of over 20 MPH, and the other horses had to have not gone too fast.

Well, my use of the word "evolve" referred to the breakthroughs in better running equipment and running techniques. It may not have been the correct to use this word, but I used it to compare us with the evolution in the animal kingdom. See, sometimes I feel that what sounds better is better to use, rather than what is technically correct.

Wow, I thought that would be impossible . I didn't know a man could outrun something like a horse. I think he cheated too or something lol.He must have gotten some good equipment to outrun that horse. I wouldn't say evolution but eh I don't know.

25,000 pounds too.

...Doesn't sound like much until you realize the pot started at 1,000 and went up each time the horse won. So it's a nice little payday.

Jesse Owens once outran a horse in a 100-meter dash.

What he did might qualify as "semi-cheating" : He would get ready, and then when the gun was shot, the horse would be "spooked" and back up a little. Even though the horse was running thrice as fast, Owens' head start would be enough to give him the victory.

Evolution, according to the theory always happen. Even in our society.

But it's slow... probably it's not that noticeable even if you stayed for like 1000 thread. Unless a new plague comes out or something...
