Probably there were, Shareware's were like big before Internet came.

Why it didn't get ever bigger is beyond me, it was just like it was a fad.

Nowdays no big games are released as shareware... :/

My sister loves using blubster to download music, but it places shortcuts to porn and casinos onto my desktop.

Well, sharewares used to be very easy to copy of. So yeah when you mention it...

Thought shareware still works for regular programs.

Nowdays it seems like that many programs goes into the open surce direction. Hmm...

Adobe Photoshop 4 came with the computer . That's why I've never had to worry about the other programs.

I don't think it was legal at ALL. But some games and apps did that or something similar (you know, wipe your address book or something).

None of the "big-name" programmers/companies resorted to such tactics though. At worst they'll just lock you out of the program.

Gimp 2, everyone who have been in #silvey knows how much I talk about that program and how I love it.

Sure it far from replacing Photoshop. But it's free, and faster than Photoshop (which takes ages to load...)

I wouldn't mind knowing (for sure) if it's legal to do stuff like that. I've been thinking of selling some programs myself, and I don't need people pirating it.

i would think that there isnt a specific law against or for it, and in the event of a lawsuit, im sure you would have a good case. although i would probably just find a less destructive means of protecting your software
