Well, for one it doesn't layer four to nine CSS background-images to create the same effect, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't validate either.

If you took that seriously, go have brain surgery.

A OS dosen't get more secure than you make it, Linux is a very diffrent OS. And I can understand what Jesper means. I had alot of problems when I used Linux. Mostly becuse I wasn't used with it. I get more and more used to Linux every day thought... it's powerful but not very userfriendly.

I would reccomend Linux to people who like to test diffrent things and have the time/help. It can take some time getting used to it...

Ok, we're back live. I've used a "hardening" script that tightens security through black magic, messing with permissions and general hoo-haa. SSH access is now also NOT AVAILABLE TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD, which makes sure that if someone manages to get the password or whatever the person can NOT LOG IN. This will not affect normal wootest operations, to the short extent that wootest operations are normal .

Now that wootest.net is back online, does that mean I can upload stuff again?

And excuse my not knowing, but what is SSH?

It's maybe is as good idea testing the server for security holes...

SSH is a secure way to transfer data, it's encrypted. I think that some operations needs SSH on Jespers server.

LoL

Several pages of Linux hacks. I think I saw a few Windows in there.

Secure INDEED! And Kitten Yiffer, explain to me exactly what you mean when you say Linux is "powerful". What do you mean "powerful"? What exactly can it do that makes it so "powerful"?

Heh, I should rather say Advanced. But then Windows is advanced and powerful in it's own way. Better say that it's just very diffrent. Heck there is so many Linux distros that you should rather talk about the distros. (and after all, hey where did I say that Linux was more powerful than Windows? I said it was powerful, not more powerful than anything else...)

I mostly have Linux for educational purposes right now, I probably will not migrate to Linux fully in the close future. It goes pretty smooth for me, but that's becuse I always look up on the internet as soon I get into a problem. If you DOS give you chills, you shouldn't even consider Linux.

A computer dosen't get stronger than it's weakest chain, set up a server wrong and there will be alot of security flaws. And this hacker maybe is into more Linux hacking than Windows hacking. Some hackers have specialities and seems to prefer to hack one OS.

BTW, which OS/distro is the most used on the servers?

Unix and BSD are used more commonly than Linux itself.

SSH is basically a secure Telnet. SSH includes encryption. Telnet is a way of remotely logging in to a machine in text or graphics mode to control it. I can still use SSH in the local network now, it's just not available from the internet (which I would have used when away, but I think I have an alternate solution to that now).

The way Linux or similar Unix variants are insecure like that is because most people set their system up with a basic distro and think they are secure. So this way, scriptkiddies can use exploits common to some distros to get in. It's the same procedure in Windows, but there are only about three major server versions out there (NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003) and the people using it most likely patch it more often than those installing Linux, which requires a lot more knowledge of what's going on. And since Windows is handled by ONE vendor, there's one fix, and you don't have to keep track of what version of what distro you have. That's basically it.

I'm just going to trust Jesper and assume that there ain't NO WAY said hacker kiddie is going to attack wootest.net again.

Seriously, the same one twice in a row... *if* Drag doesn't have a trojan, then I dunno how he pulled it off.
