Perhaps, but the problem is that the sound levels need to be mixed in a certain way to make the vocal range quieter. Whether this works or not is hit and miss, and can sometimes make the music sound weird. I don't know of any plugins for Winamp that do this, but the possibility does exist. |

Use Goldwave. That's good for getting rid of vocals.

Winamp plugin: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=176 My sound card can remove the voices by itself. |

hmm...is it perfect? I tried to use goldwave once to isolate just the background music but that didn't turn out so well. if you say it did it perfectly, then I guess I'll try again

The most common way of removing vocals is just to take out the centre part of the stereo field, as this is where vocals are 80% of the time mixed (this is how goldwave does it I think, but there will still be some vocal leakage in the L and R portions of the stereo field). The only way to remove vocal parts completely is by phase cancelation. If you can get hold of JUST the vocal line (I don't know how, maybe singing it will work) and reverse its phase, you can then superimpose it over the original track removing the vocal parts. All that can be done in goldwave or any other half decent audio editor. |

Best trick that I ever heard on this subject, that is. Plus, it reminds me of Star Trek: modify the phase variance! |
