This school I went to, Rincon Valley Middle School, has this annual trip where the 7th graders get to go to Windsor Waterworks, a waterslide park. Well yesterday a kid drowned there. From what I gathered at my school, since I have friends who have siblings there and such, he went down the slide too fast and hit his head on the bottom of the pool, knocking him out. Then he just stayed underwater for who knows how long. The pool was too crowded for lifeguards to go to. An article is here.. I've been to Windsor Waterworks MANY times.. you simply can't be a kid in Santa Rosa who's never been there. It's insanity. The pools aren't that large, and the ones where the slide drops off, you're not SUPPOSED to stay in there. What really pisses me off is.. how could it have possibly been so crowded that no lifeguard would notice? If they were fucking PAYING ATTENTION, which I doubt they were, because chances are they're just young people chatting with their friends. how long does it take for someone to drown anyway.. that's bullshit. |

wow...that um...sucks. my condolences to the family. as for lifeguards, i dunno. a lifeguard job is just one of those jobs that can easily be degraded to a job you take just for the money and aren't serious about. i wonder how the lifeguards feel right now... |

Wow. That's truly terrible. For your sake, I hope you didn't have an attachment with that kid. Still, when something like this happens, it is always a bit of a surreal shock. My condolences to the family. Come to think of it, I can only imagine how the lifeguards must feel. If I were them, I would probably be insane with guilt right now... |

Drowning can go pretty fast if you're uncouncious. They should seriously re-evaluate the lifeguards, if it wasn't even noticed, but then again, it's all too human to make mistakes

Damn.... At this small water park that ny freind and I went to, they have two slides and you come out into a pool that is only 3 feet deep. But they have a cushion that you fall on and there's a lifeguard right in front of you to tell you to move. There's one up where you slide down as well. And believe me, this is a very small water park (it's part of a larger park, actually) and there's lifeguards everywhere. Damn sad that a place so large as that would have so little. Remids me of the time I went to Six Flags (before they tore it down and made a trip mall). I was in the wave pool and I was about ten years old or so, and somehow made it to the back of the pool. So many people where there and I almost drowned. Same goes for my friend who was with me at the time, but she was on the other side of the wave pool at a different time than I was. At any rate, hopefully they'll take care of that problem before it happens to someone else. |

That's awful. Those lifeguards should be... much more attentive. In Green Bay, the only outdoor waterpark is fairly small, but there are tons of lifeguards. At least they dive in when someone's drowning. |

Hmm...this is a serious problem. They need to check all the risks which CAN lead to accidents like this BEFORE they open the park... It |

yeah, thats seriously screwed up, I dont see how at a waterpark, someone would drown....if so, they really need to get better or more lifeguards....if I was the family, I would sue...or atleast ask why the hell no one done anything until it was too late...

That's pretty sad. I work at a Boy Scout summer camp (and thus I will be posting here about once a week unfortunately) and you know how many drowning deaths we've had in the past 20 years or more? None. We use the buddy system and I think it could prevent a few senseless deaths in places like this. When you have a buddy you're supposed to look out for that person and make sure they're all right. The lifeguards at the camp have buddy checks about every 7-10 minutes. Don't know if the public would go for something like that but it works for us.

... We actually had a couple of accidents around here in the past couple of years... recently, someone died at Six Flags New England (formerly Riverside) when they went flying off a roller coaster... I don't know why they said the safety harness didn't work. And I think someone died at Lake Compounce at another rollercoaster, but I forget how that happened. Both probably were preventable if people did their jobs as well as physically possible, but what you're talking about is just plain incompetence. |

O.o Hey DrJay, I'm curious as to where you're from, as I live somewhat near both of those parks (Being from Connecticut [despite my location listing me as being from "The Chaos Sanctuary" ] myself). As I recall, the guy who died at Six Flags was, for lack of a better phrase, a fat retard. He was over 250 pounds, and I want to say he had Down's Syndrome as well (Thhere was something mentally wrong with him). I want to say someone drowned at Compounce actually, on one of the slides that emptied into the lake. |

I'm from somewhere in central CT. I can't just TELL everyone, now, can I? You're gonna have to do a little research to pin it do--oh hell, Meriden. You? And yeah, I remember that about the Six Flags guy. Wasn't really paying attention to too many details but I remembered those. |

At first when I saw the thing about Six Flags there, I was almost afraid they'd shut down the ride (it was Superman, right?) because that was one of my favorites I've been on.

I live in Almost-Wolcott. More precisely, Waterbury. Best known for having a pedophile for a mayor (Philip Giordano). And the Superman ride has been plagued with problems, relatively speaking. The thing gets stuck about once a year, I know. |

Ah yes, Waterbury. Yet more proof of what CT does best... elect crooks to high state and local government positions.

We also produce basketball players (former UConn role-player Edmund Saunders and Syracuse bust Mark Konecny both went to my high school, and Providence College star Ryan Gomes went to Wilby High). I'm near Wolcott, like I said. That's about all I'd like to give away. |

Thats just sad. The lifeguards at our public pool are just as bad. They're young and horny and don't ever pay attention. Its shit heads like them that need to be fired. Its just so sad a child died, because some dumbasses weren't paying attention. The only reason that our pool hasn't had any recent drownings is because usually everyone comes with a friend so everyone basically has a "buddy system", even though no one knows it. My deepest condolences to the family. Damn... thats just sad... |

Xzolaz what you said was a major understatement. I almost drowned in our pool without anyone around me and 2 life gaureds looking right at me. I really hate when this stuff happens. They should make it so that life gaurds have to pass an examination so that they can keep thier job. My condolences to the family. |
