I'm using Windows 2000 and Mozilla Furryfox. Not that it matters so much... Yes, it connects. It takes about two seconds for the images to show, but the text comes immediately. Here's some ping and traceroute data: [12:33:13] [Mike ~]$ ping wootest.net [12:33:13] [Mike ~]$ tracert wootest.net (EDIT: Odd... Bash seems to have forgoten to change the time each second... [No, I don't have that fast a computer.] i'll have to check that out ) (edited by FreeDOS on 06-09-04 03:44 PM) |

Originally posted by FoomYes, it does. Did I ever say it didn't? I deliberately didn't say it like that because some smartass would say that the optimal way is always less or equal to halfway around the world. This was easier. As for what's making my server slower; I honestly don't know. All traffic have to go through my ADSL modem (duh) and also my router/wireless accesspoint. It may be a bit busy at times with high wireless activity even if it's outside my own net because it always checks everything - it must to make sure if it's in my net or not. I seriously have no idea what's slowing it down and making it unstable and "timeouty" at times. I wouldn't mind as much if it stabilized on one speed, but it seems to hiccup every once in a while. I'll ask someone better versed in server networking about this. As for the images to load on the page, they are really header tags but with the text hidden and a background image set with a quite clever hack, allowing people with, say, Lynx, to see plain text and other people to see the image. However it takes seemingly extra time for these to load because it starts loading after the stylesheet is parsed, which is in a later phase of page loading, and some browsers such as Firefox also does the right thing and doesn't start loading them until they scroll into view. Thus it may appear a bit patchy. Edit: And to further cement the fluctating speed: < 1 ms < 1 ms < 1 ms 836ms (edited by Jesper on 06-09-04 04:07 PM) |

Somehow I swear that the last packet went a trip to a slow router in China or something. And I noticed that wootest.net goes faster with Firefox. Yes I tested with both browsers. Several times. The only problem I get is that the custom titles won't load sometimes. (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 06-09-04 04:57 PM) |

I rarely have a problem loading it. I use 56k and it's just as lame as everything else. I find I have a lot more problems at school. It uses DSL, and a lot of times the page will never load, or go beyond slow. |

Sometimes it dies on me when I'm doing maintenance work on my blog... You know, a 404 error but then things are fine on a refresh.
