| Okay, since this is brought up every once in a while, and a lot of stuff for various users is hosted on wootest.net, I thought I might as well do a survey. To fill out, quote this post and enter answers below each question. If you go to http://i.am.a.wootest.net, does it load? If Yes: - Do files off of wootest.net take time to load for you? - If yes, do they regularly load slow, and is there a difference between multiple locations with similar real connection speed? If No: (If you have set your hosts file to resolve wootest.net to another IP, unset it temporarily while performing these tests.) Open the command prompt or terminal application on your system - (Start, Run, "command" in Windows or opening an application called something similar to "xterm" or "Terminal" or being in the shell in UNIX variants (Linux, Mac OS X)) - and perform these tests. - Please "ping" wootest.net and paste the four first results here. The command in both Windows and UNIX variants (Linux, Mac OS X) is ping wootest.net. In UNIX variants, you'll need to hit Ctrl+Z to stop the ping program. - Please do a "trace route" on wootest.net and paste the result here. In Windows, use the command tracert wootest.net. In UNIX variants, use traceroute wootest.net. This information will be very helpful to me. The connection as of today could be a lot faster, and in fact a newer connection will be installed around week 30. (The current week number.) |

| Yes it does load. And pretty fast too. Heck I even checked both in IE and Firefox (and I had no cache in IE!). Ping was around 33 ms. Lowest ping I have seen in long time.  (yes I know it wasn't needed but heh, couldn't resist  )I test in school tomorrow. If you want test from other locations... | My school network's DNS server could never get your server... either that, or its DNS cache never releases (or only does once per month)... no idea which. Ping results: 178ms 187ms timeout 177ms a second set provided: 730ms 217ms 194ms 198ms using 256 bytes (from default 32): 667ms 181ms 237ms 191ms I think the results are showing that 3 out of every 4 times, it either takes longer or times out. |

| Sounds good so far. Not as many are having problems as I thought. It sounds like I could use a better DNS though. Additional food for thought: 143 ms is the lower limit for a signal to go halfway around the world and back. This is constrained by the speed of light. In contrast, some of the times are very good (but could still use improvement). Keep up the good work! |

| Yeah, Jesper, your server is kinda funky for me. Sometimes it's fast, great, no problems But other times it's slow and timeouty. I went just now, and it took 21 seconds for the site to load. It DOES load, but it hangs on one image sometimes for a few seconds. I'll do the ping test for your info: (elapsed time since the page load: about 4 minutes.) Ping: wootest.net -- 32 bytes Time: 135ms, 135ms, 136ms, 136ms TTL: 111 (all four times) Just for curiosity, what do you suppose is making your server slow (at times)?
