But seriously the only reason I want to get Samurai sandals is because I think they look cool and Ive always wanted a pair. During summer I wear almost nothing but sandals, plus Id be the only person I know to have Samurai sandals. I have a feeling that they might be extremly comfortable....and I base that on absolutly nothing. | They're really not comfortable at all, and they're really loud on today's asphalt roads. You can hear one of those old geezers (I say this because people born after the war never wear geta) come clomping down the street from miles away. If you're interested in ninja and sneaking around and such, you should see Nijo-jo (2nd Ave. Castle) in Kyoto. Supposedly -- I still haven't been there yet -- they've got these creaky floors that'll make noise when someone walks on them no mater how light-footed they are. "Nightingale floors", they call them. |

| With e-bay there's nothing to worry about -- fraud protection prevents you from bidding and then not getting the item. If you still don't feel safe, arrange to pay with a credit card and then you can dispute the charges if you don't receive what was promised. But your best bet is to have someone in Japan send them to you; someone who actually knows about geta. Back in the days of professional geta-makers, there were all kinds of techniques for making them last. I once saw an old guy make the straw used to hold your foot down; he had this bizarre technique where he'd hold the rope between two toes while he tied another part of it -- amazingly skilled. |
