Tonight, I was sitting down at the dinner table with my family and grandparents. (Grandma's birthday) Well we were eating steak, twice baked potatoes, garlic bread, corn, and salad. My grandfather having been through 2 heart attacks within the last 10 years started to choke. But of course, if you've learned about Heart Attacks / Strokes, you know if the person looks weird and still claims their fine, there's something definently wrong. My grandma just stopped talking with my parents, and stared at him looking pretty pale. She kept on asking if he was ok, and he insisted dhe continue on with her discussion. He started to cough, and act as if he had a pain in his throat. Then there were some pretty weird sounds coming from his body ... well he finally decided to excuse himself from the table and went into the bathroom. About 5 minutes had passed and my dad finally got up to go check on him. Luckily yes, he seemed to just be choking on something and couldn't get it down, but hell, that scared the living shit out of me...

Yeah luckily all is well.

I was just, speechless at that time, with thoughts running all over my head.

Hopefully all is well with you too.

yeah...my mom had surgery during the last week of 2003, and regained most of her strength back within 3 weeks. anyways, i guess that breathing this is going to be a precursor to what i hope will not happen for another 15-20+ years

My uncle had a seizure at the table during thanksgiving once. Closest thing to this that I've known. Well, if everything's well now, just be thankful.

Glad to hear that it wasn't something major.

But you have to remember, everyone is going to die in this life. It's something you have to accpet and not to dwell on when the time happens.

And rather think of enjoying the life instead of thinking when it's ends...

Yeah, I had sleepless nights just becuse of thinking on death...

Celebrate one's life, that's how I see it has.

Sure, it hurts, but they would want you to move on and be happy afterall.

You were lucky. My Grandfather once had to go to the hospital to get the food removed. *shiver*

I feel honored to be a part of such a healthy thread. I agree, life is precious, and death is certain. It is important to celebrate what little we have, and to take each passing in stride.

Xeograd's situation kind of reminds me of when my mom's boyfriend had a seizure in his sleep. His eyes looked like he was suffocating and that he was making strange noises. It was freakin' scary and of course I called 911. When they came, he went to the hospital for a few days and after he came home, he was alright again.

Yeah about 10-15 minutes after he got up to go to the bathroom he came back, 100% fine. Just kind of weird if you ask me...

I know how scary that can be....One time my little brother started to choke, except he couldn't cough or breath at all. It scared the heck out of me, luckely he was eventually able to cough and breath again but ever since then I've been kinda freaked out about choking.
