I decided to give this a try. drjayphd did it a while back on the old forum, but if I remember correctly he never finished it.
What this is, basically, is to decide the best band ever! And the best band in the genres that will be decided. Since this is the first time I do something like this I don't think everything will run smoothly, but hopefully there won't be any major errors from my part YoshiDude will also assist me in this, since I need a mod

HOW TO DECIDE THE BANDS:
Everyone will, for now, be given 10 different bands they can nominate. Nominations MUST look like this:
Band name1 - Genre
Band name2 - Genre
Band name3 - Genre
Genre is the musical genre you think the band fits in. And make it simple, I don't want to see things like "1994 ska-inspired underground New-York punk", a simple "Punk" will do just fine
When I think there are enough nominations, the voting will start. The way that works is that I make a new poll where two bands in the same basic genre will be put up against each other, and the band with the most votes will continue in the competition. When a winner for each genre has been decided, the winners from each genre will go up against each other. There will be two polls up at a time, and if YoshiDude does her job well every poll will be up for 48 hours.

Let the nominations begin!

(Edit: I thought that if people were going to vote, it'd be best if they knew what the different bands were like. Thus, I've added three songs that I'd recommend in parenthesis after each band, so that people can aquire them (download ) and listen to them, and thus get a better picture of what the band is like, if they've never heard them)

Nominations (yeah, although I know some of these won't ever stand a chance, I'll nominate them anyway):

Oasis - Rock (Don't Look Back In Anger - Stand By Me - Cigarettes And Alcohol)
The Stone Roses - Rock (Shoot You Down - She Bangs The Drums - I Wanna Be Adored)
Starsailor - Rock (Alcoholic - Good Souls - Silence Is Easy)
Blur - Rock (Parklife - Country House - Song 2)
Travis - Rock (Why Does It Always Rain On Me? - Flowers In The Window - Driftwood)
Steadman - Rock (Wave Goodbye - Carried - Revive) (I decided to nominate Nirvana instead)
U2 - Rock (With Or Without You - Beautiful Day - New Year's Day)
The Rolling Stones - Rock (Sympathy For The Devil - Paint It Black - I Can't Get No Satisfaction)
The Beatles - Rock (Hey Jude - I Want To Hold Your Hand - Yesterday)
Bush - Rock (Come Down - Glycerine - Machinehead)

So, yeah, I like rock.
It's not true, however, as some evil people say, that I only listen to British rock. I've got U2 on there, they're not British, they're Irish!
I know some might have placed the genres a little diferently (Bush under grunge, for instance), but I decided to go with what AllMusic put them as.

I'm gonna avoid Nominating bands that were already listed... But Kudos to the man who nominated Feeder

Death - Death Metal
Dust For Life - Rock
Iced Earth - Metal
Carcass - Death Metal
Blue Oyster Cult - Rock
Alice Cooper - Rock
Suicidal Tendencies - Rock
Acid Bath - Ranges but mainly metal
Amorphis - Metal
Mindless Self Indulgence - Punk

Theres alot more i wanted to nomiate but those i know that had no chance i diddn't. I also diddn't want to put bands that sound really similar with one another.

Anyways.

If you're not similar with the bands, i'll post some songs i want you to download.

Death: Spirtual Healing, Suicide Machine, Symbolic, Empty Words... Pretty much anything from them. But Symbolic was their best CD so get songs off of that first.

Dust For life: Some song titles might be wrong forgive me. Dragonfly, Posion, Step into the light.

Iced Earth: Wolf, Angels Holocaust, I died for you, Dragons Child, Watching over me... Those are my favourites by them

Carcass: Heartwork, Black Star, Go to hell... Currently my favourites by them. Personally, I think Swansong and Heartwork were their best CDs.

Blue Oyster Cult: Cities On Flame, Burning For you, Don't Fear the Reaper

Suicidal Tendencies: No Body Hears, Bring Me down, Asleep at the wheel, I'll Hate you better... Try any of their songs really. Theres only been like 6 i diddn't like of theirs out of what 10 CDs?

Acid Bath: Lyrics are pretty fucked and their style kinda changes from Death metal to more of a southern rock feel. Anyways songs i suggest. Scream of The Butterfly, The Blue, Godmachine, venus Blue, 13 Fingers, Tranquilized

Amorphis: Anything from "Tales From The Thousand Lakes" which is an awsome metal CD. "Tuonela" and "Am Universum" are also good CDs vocials are cleaner, and the lyrics are more sorrowful. I'm too lazy to list certian songs, just look for those 3 CDs.

Mindless Self Indulgence: Favourites from them. Bring The Pain, Faggot, I hate Jimmy Page, Backmask, Tornado.

Well, I was on my way in here to change my vote from The Beatles to Ash, but then Elmo nominated Ash, so I guess I'll just leave it as it is.

I diddn't really know how to class them either. I rarely class stuff.

Mindless Self Indulgence is mainly a band i enjoy live. Their CDs don't do a damn thing for me anymore. But than again i saw them live twice and meet them twice. And usually after i see a band in concert (and they kicked ass) i usual don't listen enjoy their music as much. It happened to Opeth also.

Hehe, not only have I heard the new tracks, I actually bought the CD a few days ago. It was the Special Edition one, with a Bonus Live Album, containing the Meltdown songs + A Life Less Ordinary, Darkside Lightside, and Burn Baby Burn. On the Meltdown album, I think Meltdown, Orpheus, and Evil Eye are the greatest.

*listening to Vampire Love right now, by the way*
