| Oh boy, I have heard of things like these, but I'm a little worried about all of this. I mean, I know the best advice is to stay calm, but who knows what's the person is going to ask and who knows what I'm going to answer for them. Basically, it was pretty unexpected, I just had put in an online application not too long ago, and I'm suddenly hit with a phone call asking me for an interview tomorrow at 6:15 PM. What has me a little nervous is what the person said after all of this. The person on the phone said if things go well, then it should last up to 90 minutes. Geez, even high school classes didn't last that long all the time, but yeah... I'm not trying to complain here. It's best to just be steady, calm, and clear and to certainly keep it going... Though has anybody have a summer job they're getting into or has been in some interviews at all? |

| Yeah I've had some interviews before. Not a whole lot but enough to know when I've messed up. Some rules: be careful what you say, don't come off as either cocky or underconfident. Even if you're not that enthused about the job (as I rarely am), you should appear to be excited about the chance to work there and make it clear you can do the job that is asked of you. Dress well. Appear prepared. | |||

| MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH THE INTERVIEWER. Sounds stupidly obvious, I know, but I have trouble with this, mainly because I avoid making eye contact in general when I talk or get talked to. You don't have to stare at the person, obviously, but as MathOnNapkins said, try to show some interest. Also as he said, dress neatly; the general guideline is to dress one step better than you would for the job. |

| Sit forward, look interested. Smart dress isn't neccessary, but very, very highly recommended (always do it if you want to get ahead). Be a team player. If you're asked to complete team skills in a modern interview, good team skills are highly valued. Be polite and always use proper English. Try not to be tense. Be relaxed and confident in yourself. Always ask questions about the job and the company to show your interest. Do your homework. If you're asked why you want the job, a reply that shows that you value a particular aspect about the people you'll work with will go down well. |

i applied for a job online.. guess where? GIANT! yep.. that's all a fourteen year-old around here can do anyways. and for my age, five dollars an hour isn't too bad. i have an interview coming up.. i'm wondering how i serious i'm suppose to act when they get to the question as to why i would be qualified to be a bagger.  ;;well best of luck to you. :3 |

I had one before..I wasn't hired. I don't plan on getting a job this sumemer since I'll have summer school and I want to go to LA..I dont know if they would let me have all that I want off If I do go. When they ask you questions..answer them right..don't screw them up like I did  ..When they ask you why you wanted to get this job, give them a good answer. If they ask you if you have any more questions, make sure you have them..I didn't..lol. So I wasn't hired. Good luck though!  |

| I had two interviews for an internship at the same company. Both were 75 minutes long and went alright. Unfortunately, I didn't get the position. As for getting a job, I do have one at my univserity library. I interviewed for it back in April 2003 and it wasn't that bad. | |||

| Thanks for the replies, guys and girls. It gives me a nice idea about what I'm going to be expecting. Though this isn't all for my gain, I have to say, I think that I'll be prepared to get this job. Otherwise, I can always try at some other job. After I'm done with the interview, I'll say how it goes and help out any others who have an interview coming up as well. | |||

| Dress very very nice, make sure your shoes are very clean (even the bottoms, these interviewers can smell them), iron all your clothes, brush your teeth and hair (but use different brushes), be very polite, hand in your resume, etc. Even if the job is for something like shovelling poop, it's still appropriate to dress as nice as you can. If you're clean and fit, then you probably do a good job, eh? |

| Thanks for all the help, guys. The interview went well, and I got accepted to the training seminar. It was certainly worth the time as I learned a lot about what this company had to offer, and an idea of marketing. Though what was different about this is that it was a group interview, which I must say was much more relaxing. Still, I noticed that a few people got declined, but it seemed to be pretty lenient. Have you guys have had group interviews at all, and would you rather have the group one or just the usually one-on-one? |

| Good job, Steven! I guess I would prefer a group intervew. or never. death. death would be the ideal situation. I've never had an interview (I'm 16.  ) but I dread the day I have to take one. The only reason I'd want to go to a four year college is to continue my quest of avoiding real life. I am so bad under pressure, it's not even funny. I have the same problem as Emptyeye, I can't make eye contact. And I stutter. I stutter a little regardless, but it gets extreme when I'm nervous.If there was to be one example used to argue that the "favorites" feature is useful, this thread would be a strong candidate. |

| Thanks for the congrats, Ashley and Emptyeye! Congratulations to you as well, Emptyeye. Wow, and I just believe that the reason to bring this topic up because a lot of the users here are probably old enough to consider a job. Interviews aren't certainly easy to do and I was just wondering if any others had to deal with it, so they could trade information with people who are just starting for the job-grabbing campaign. Let me tell you, keep steady with that eye contact and being attentive, it's probably something of rather high importance. So if you stutter or mess up in speaking, keep eye contact as best as you can. Don't pressure yourself to be nervous at all, tone out that fear as much as you can and you stand a chance to get that job.
