| Well, tomorrow me and some friends are going skydiving. It was pretty expensive but we made a pool and saved up over the past couple of months. Anyway, I've always wanted to do this but at the same time, I'm kind of scared about it. I don't want to back down or anything because it will make me look like a pansy. I know it's dangerous and all but there aren't too many skydiving related deaths. I should be fine. But I need some advice on how to control my fears. Any suggestions? |

| I'll add: Don't look down. But that'll be kinda difficult. As for the control your fears thing...I would kinda figure it's one of those first-time jitters thing. Once you do it once and get over it you won't have the problem the next time you do it. I mean I remember being a kid and being scared of the huge roller coaster. Ninja, Six Flags St. Louis, when I was 10 or so...broke that fear into lil iddy biddy...well you get the idea. There is a bit more risk...but just remember to PULL THE CORD. Better be good pics too, dammit. |

| Just jump and go head first into your fears. Ummm..wait,,,that doesn't sound right..anyway, you have your friends there so hopefully they'll keep your mind off of the actual fear and you can just relax and just have fun. Of course, this could be the case where you're really freaked out, up until the moment you are on the ground, looking up and thinking, "I wanna do that again!!!" | Although it's probably not something I'd do unless I was forced into it, i've heard from my old roommate, who is a skydiving nut (he gets a news letter!) that when you jump out of the plane, that the ground below you doesn't seem to be any perceptible distance from you. He said it looked like a painting. And you don't even have to pull your chute for a long time so there's no rush either. In fact, if you pull your chute too early you'll be floating down for a loooong time. The fact that they give you two chutes is assurance enough for me. And even then if you're going with a group of people who've done it before they'll probably know how to take care of you even if those fail (which is like nil chance) |

I don't think anything will happen. My math teacher said she went sky diving. Yeah there is danger but you face danger every day when you're driving or just in the car. I think you have more of a chance of an accident in a car on the freeway then sky diving  So just think about happy things and try not to think about the bad things and what could happen. | I should point out also that a lot of chutes nowadays come with a CO2 cartridge that automatically deploys below a certain altitude, opening the chute (If anyone remembers the very first season of MTV's Road Rules, it deployed for one of the people on there after neither his primary NOR reserve chute opened). In other words, the chances of catastrophic fKitten Yiffer are very slim, to say the least. Go up there and have fun! EDIT: Haha, certain attitude. Whoops. Fixed that. | Just go for it. You'll have your friends with you, and a load of failsafes against anything going wrong, so don't worry about it. Also (and I think this has already been mentioned), the more terrified you are now, the more you're going to love it, and the more accomplishes you'll feel after it's done. (For added effect, have a friend toss some spiders on your face before the fall!) |

| Felix, I like your suggestion. Maybe it's because of their many legs and stuff.. I'm not sure, I'm not afraid of spiders either. Worms. I hate worms so much it's not funny. And no one else is afraid of worms, so they make fun of me, and it sucks. So what I'd like to do one day is get a large bucket of spiders and when they're mocking me again THROW IT RIGHT IN THEIR FACES HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA WOULDN'T THAT BE FABULOUS!!!! If that fails, then HANG ON TO ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS MAN!!! And backing down from it don't make you a pussy. It would make agreat I-told-you-so. The day before the jump Legion: Fuck, I ain't doing it!
