I have a whole book of dumb warning labels somewhere...one of the funnier ones was a knife that said "Keep Out of Children."

This is from a label on a cushion in my house: Remove immediately any glowing ember or lighted cigarette which falls on furniture.

You mean I'm NOT supposed to let the furniture catch fire?

Oh, so THAT'S why it doesn't work...I've been eating the peanuts first, THEN opening the bag.

That's probably on there because idiots have a cough/cold, don't have any adult medication handy, so they take their kid's and figure that it won't affect them.

And then the drowsiness kicks in.

I think legally they have to put that there. Just like even uber-weak lasers that could only hurt if you stare at them for like a minute straight have to have warning labels.
I personally like the 'do not turn upside-down' labels found on the bottom of some objects. Or of course the 'emergency cock' on a Japanese plane... I don't wanna know.

I was reading Game Informer the other day, out of boredom, and someone had written in to ask about the radiation warning inside the gamecube. To my surprise, the GI people didn't correct the person's misinterpretation; they just told him not to take it apart and to send it in to a professional repair blah blah blah. Anyway, I think the guy had a mental image of the gamecube being powered internally by some glowing green stuff straight out of Half-Life (maybe it runs the clock... the RADIOACTIVE CLOCK!), and the response in the magazine really wouldn't have changed that perception...

Yeah. The radiation warning is talking about the LASER, also known as "light," which is more scientifically classified as "electromagnetic radiation" along with, you know, radio waves and other invisible things. I'm surprised they don't put "radiation" warnings on light bulbs, come to think of it. Or anything above absolute zero. Anyway, you probably won't have any radiation problems with your system unless you tear off the lid, find the button that gets pushed down for the system to think the lid is closed, and then turn it on and stare into the lens. You might also have to put in a game, then remove it and look really quickly.

I've seen some pretty interesting warning labels before. A few of them:
> On an iron : Warning! Do not iron clothes while wearing.
> On a Pop-Tart box : Warning! After toasting, pastry may become hot. (my addition would be "If not, buy a new toaster.")
> (This is for real) On a jar of peanuts : Warning! May contain nuts.
> Can't remember the product : Warning! Not to be used for the other use.

Can't think of any others at the moment.

I would just simply put: "Only us the product for things, the manufacture itendet it to be used." and furhter legal notice that the manufacturer can't be sued if the instructions aren't precicly followed and things done, that exced common sence.

Humans sure are stupid sometimes.

I got into a fistfight over an argument about radiation inside of microwave ovens. There's a small clearing near my house where the kids in my area get drunk, and we used to smoke out over there. Not important. Anyway, there were every manner of smashed appliances, and a friend of mine swore up and down that the ill health of the surrounding vegetation was due not to the constant river of piss with which it was watered but to the broken and derelect microwave that was sitting in one of the piles of trash. I laughed at him and asked him why the microwave would cause such a response in the environment. 'Dude, its the radiation. What are you, stupid?' I pointed out that microwaves are just higher frequency radiation than visible light. 'No shit, that's what I said. Radiation. There's these little tubes, see?' said my friend, gesturing at the internal clock batteries in the microwave. Anyway, we wound up assaulting each other, only because he's such an asshole. Later someone pissed on the microwave.

I think they were talking about video game consoles. Can't forget to save and taking those meds will make you forget to do so..and you'll end up dying way too much.
