My parents dislike my "balance" in friends and school. They disagree with everything I believe in for how important school is and stuff, and I just can't take it. They are going to try to change me, and at the age of 13 they don't seem to realize I am not one to be controlled...

Ugh, ANyone know how I can convice my parents that "life" is as/more important than school? I'm about ready to go on strike and stop doing schoolwork or something, becuase this will get drastic. Appearently the all Bs and As kid that does constant community service and is going on to confirmation and is in the gifted group, helping out at the synogouge, just isn't good enough, and I can't take it.

...

I can't stop being angry now, so I'll get no sleep and be mroe irrittable tomorrow meaning I can get in more trouble. Just great.

"Ugh, ANyone know how I can convice my parents that "life" is as/more important than school?"

I can't honestly say that at your age, life is as or more important than school. Your education should be your number one priority right now.

But apparently you get good grades among other things so that's a definite plus.

"I'm about ready to go on strike and stop doing schoolwork or something, becuase this will get drastic."

Quite possibly the worst thing you could possibly do at this point. Not only will it not help your situation with your parents at all (It'll actually make it worse) but you'll hurt yourself as well.

Hmm, I can't think of any advice on what you SHOULD do, only what you shouldn't do. But I'm sure someone else will come along with that answer.

Education will determine what life you live as an adult, which will last much longer than teenage years. They act that way because they know what's right.

What you should do is just wait it out, keep getting good grades, have social life be a secondary sort of thing. It's not that fun, but it'll be worth it.

Hmm... is it that you spend too much time with friends, or too much time with school? Are your grades bad? If so, that's the problem. If not, then, well, you really should just try to keep your grades up as high as you can all through school... that stuff could ultimately determine what you do in life. Or at least could affect the choices of what you do in life. If it's that you don't spend enough time with friends, then socialize, duh. Whatever you do, don't fuck up your priorities.

My apologies. In the few hours I've been back, a lazy streak seems to have come over me. And I've apparently grown more stupid. Well, anyway, then it is simple. Your parents are worried about you, and want you to socialize with friends more it seems. Whatever you do though, don't go on strike with school. That would be the worst thing you could do.

Dude if you did that you would be in so much trouble. I have the same problem so I really just do all my homework as soon as I get home go hang out with friends. Oh so you know some parents think that Bs are bad and you should only have As.

Your parents shouldn't try and change you (or control you) but your 13 right, your parents are only trying to do whats best for you.
As many have said here keep your grades up and concertrate on school, do your homework and keep your social life up.

Do your parents know your getting B's and A's? My parents are proud of me for getting B's and A's. It sounds like your life is normal except the parents "disliking your balance in school and friends"... I don't get it?!?!?

Let me ask you this, how do you do in school?

If you do well then theres no reason for your parents to think your not 'balanced' but if your doing bad then you need to fess up and start studying. School gets you into a good College and a good College gets you a good job...which leads to a great life.

Hey there. I'm the bum who started smoking pot and not doing any schoolwork at all because I was pissed off at my parents. I think you should try it, fucking up a year of your life is pretty fun...

Do not listen to that guy. Thats the worst advise Ive ever heard.

Just try and balance school and friends and when your doing bad in school take some away from your friends until you get back on track. Then after that you can go back to having fun.

I don't really understand your problem Wlokos because you haven't told us exactly what your parents find wrong with your "Balance of friends and school." Do they not like your friends or something? Do they think you spend too much time not doing school oriented things? If so then they are naturally worried about you. Parents always worry about how their children will turn out, even if nothing is actually wrong.

Even though I agree with you that social life is important, at least yield somewhat to your parents. I'm sure it means a lot to them.

Kefka, try reading that one more time.

I'm confused why everyone else is so confused... From what you said, it seems like your parents think you spend too much time with friends and having fun and they want you to do better in school..

You're 13, believe it or not your parents are more right then you. I say more right because A

Don't bother striking; not this late in the year. If it happens again next year (provided your grades are good), then yeah. Go for it. Strike your ass off. That's what I'd do.
