Heh, armed robbers are rare here... thought well, killing that person would still get prosecuted. But I think you could get away with it if you only hurt him...

But if the robber kills the one he robs or at least hurt him, he sure will get harsh punishment.

And the Swedish police will test using a "zapper gun" or it was called, it causes alot of pain but no damage. The police here is arresting people, not killing them...

We have harsh rules yeah, but they do work well.

Not related to the subject, but about Swedish laws.
There are infact rules that shops etc needs to have their lights lit at night. Because if a robber would break in and the lights were off, and he'd hurt himself, he could sue the shopkeeper.

And if someone stole your wallet, and you find this someone, you're not allowed to take back your wallet. You need to go through a lot of unnecessary legal procedures to get your wallet back. The wonders of Swedish laws

The cops never get to a person's home in time when they're being assaulted. You would rather them be employed and people dying than people protecting themselves and cops being out of a job? That doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't want to own a gun because there's an existent threat of robbery, but because it might happen, and I should be prepared. Most people have fire extinguishers not because their house catches fire a lot, but because there could be a fire, and they should be prepared. It's the same thing.

No, I wouldn't like killing a person, no matter how bad they are, but if I was the victim of an armed robbery I'd definitely rather it be his life than mine.

Actually, I think it's quite rare for people to have a fire extinguisher in there house. I know I don't.

I don't see Admins protecting the board 24/7, cops can't protect everyone's houses 24/7 either, but at least they are trained to do what they do and most know what to expect.

I'm not saying they're supposed to protect people 24/7. Actually, protecting people isn't even their job. They're law enforcers. If you want to be protected, hire a body guard.
What I'm saying is that, in a lot of cases, they just can't make it to a person's house to help in time. That's because they can only respond if somebody broke a law, like breaking and entering, which means the predator/robber is already in your house.

Then if they are law enforcers, why is the motto "To Serve and Protect" associated with them?

Whats to say the predator/robber isn't going to be inside either way? Leaving a weapon around could also mean you are under threat if you aren't even home whilst being robbed.

You know what? I have absolutely no idea. It doesn't describe them at all.

For example, there have been many cases of somebody's psychotic ex-boyfriend threatening them. They called the police about it, but they said they couldn't do anything about it because the psycho hadn't broken the law. The next day they were assaulted by said ex-boyfriend. That's not protecting, is it?

The really stupid thing about having a gun in one's house 'for defense', is that an armed robber is MUCH more likely to shoot a person if the person they're robbing has a gun. If you don't have a gun, then they're almost certainly not going to use theirs. Why would they? Get themselves into the possiblity of a life jail sentance or the death penalty? Call me stupid but I think they'd want to AVOID that.

Just a small point. I know it's not always applicable, there's a chance you might have a complete psycho break in and gun you down, but that's *very* slim, I'd expect.

Then what are you supposed to do? Just let him steal your stuff and let him run off? No way. Not only will he not know if you have a gun when he breaks in (unless he knows you), but if you can pull a gun on him, chances are he would run without taking anything. You might even be able to hold him until the police get to the scene and arrest him. If he decides to take a chance and try to shoot you, well, that's his problem, and the world most likely isn't benefitting from his existence anyway.

The thing is, self-defense and property-defense usage of a gun often results in the gun not even being used. The scare factor is enough to drive a lot of criminals off.

Guns are good ok people if you take guns like other people have said robbers will still have them and the good people trying to defend themselves won't be able to. If you take guns away we all lose. It is very simple to see. With out guns robbers will have less to fear. The only thing you could do would be to have a sword or a bow or something.

I think my personal stance on guns makes the most sense, BUT I think MOST of my opinions make the most sense

If guns were illegal in the US, people would still get their hands on them somehow anyway (Columbine: They had those guns ILLEGALLY). Criminals will always find a way to get a gun. Therefore, I think that they should be kept legal, some people feel safer carrying a 9mm or a .45 with them (Especially in bad areas/towns). I know I would/do

The problem is that semi-automatic rifles are legal with like 30 round clips. 5 rounds is more than enough to shoot whatever deer you want to. Besides, what the hell is the point to owning an AR15 for example? It's not useful in hunting at all. A bolt-action rifle with a larger round (8mm, 30-06, etc) is much more useful. Guns like AR15's or semi-auto handguns are overkill really. You don't need a 16 round glock either. The law should limit it at like 5 rounds per clip no matter what you're carrying. That way, mass murders and school shootings wouldn't be nearly as common.

When the constitution and amendments were written with guns in mind, the guns of the time were muzzle-loading muskets. The FASTEST a REALLY GOOD reloader could do was maybe 3 shots a MINUTE. Their accuracy wasn't that great and their power sucked too. A LOT has changed since then. I'm sure the founders of the USA wouldn't have let AR15's and the like LEGAL for AVERAGE PEOPLE to own, if they knew England wasn't still trying to reconquer us

Plus, you don't exactly have the right to Bear Tanks or Bear Missiles... so the whole "right to bear arms" thing is rendered obsolete even if you don't have restrictions on basic guns.

If you could afford them sure you can, but you can't have weapons of mass destruction or people may get like pissed off at you.
