I vote for the first game. Warning! SMB3 rant below: This wasn't terrible or anything, but is highly overrated. Without saving, it was too difficult. With the feature, it's too easy. There doesn't appear to be a way to balance the problem. "Best selling of all time"? Not a chance. I never liked the graphic style used in this or Super Mario Sunshine (that's off-topic). The gameplay, music and control were OK. Quite a few games were better. SMB1, Zelda, Mega Man (especially #3)... Really, SMB3 was an average game targeted towards the raving Mario fanbase of the late 80's and early 90's. |

I'd say SMB2 (usa). It's the most unique of the Mario games, I think. (edited by JJ64 on 05-23-04 04:06 PM) |

I would have to go with SMB3, sorry if you think it's overrated. And how is Duck Hunt so related to any Mario game? Other than it shares a cart with SMB? Are there any other Mario games like it? EDIT: the most challenging one though is SMB2J... and I play that a lot. And SMB3's NOT too hard to beat all the levels on the NES with no saves... it is just time consuming. Everybody loves duck hunt! It's a simple shooting game. What is Doki Doki Panic anyway? Actually another cool one is where you're a demolition crew and there are wierd enemies, like Eggplant Man. |

DDP > SMUSA I'm thinking about hacking some of the DDP graphics into SMUSA. It would be interesting to play with the DDP characters but with the ability to run. For those who don't know, DDP is the original version of what became SMUSA (SMB2). (edited by LocalH on 05-26-04 12:42 PM) |

SMB3. It was one of the first NES games I had ever played, and still remains one of my favorite games of all time, just because it does so many different things well, especially during that era.

I would have to say SMB3, it was the most memorable of them all (It gave me all those good Mario memories from when I was little). I also liked SMB1 a lot too, it was a classic game, but I think SMB3 wins overall.

For the first post- Mario Bros. 3 is not very hard to beat... Maybe you just suck or something...*sweatdrop* I can beat that game in fifteen minutes... With saves, YES, it IS better- Mario Bros 3 for the Advance takes everything good about the original and improves. But all the same, it isn't too hard to beat. Yes, it WILL take a while to go through the WHOLE THING straight. Doki-Doki-Panic is Mario Bros. 2, just so you know. All they did was change them into Mario characters- hence why it doesn't play like a Mario game SHOULD. I like Mario Bros. 3 the best out of them all, though. It took what made the original awesome and made it Nintendo perfection for the time. Mario All-Stars, Mario World (As well as its sequel, of course), and the Mario RPG series (Paper Mario 2 will probably be included in there, I'm sure) make up a good chunk of my top favs of all time. The Mario series is the single most money-making franchise in gaming history, I will assure you. Sonic and Link are no doubt up there, as well, along with the Final Fantasy series, I can hypothesize, but Mario is the MAN. |

I may love SMB2 as the bes of the NES mario games, but Mario in SMB2 is uber lame. I like every other character more than him. SMB3's mario had the Hammer Bros. suit, which is by far the best and most anticipated power up of the NES era. SMB3 > all NES Marios.

SMB2 wasnt BAD... It just wasnt original. It was still quite a game to try and beat anyways. Even though SMB3 is my favorite(What ), you cant beat the retroness of the original. There are so many things that you can do to have fun in that game, it never really seems to get old. |
