I'm using Win98 (yes, I know it's old) and I have a 900 Mghz (Mispelled?) ADM Athlon computer with 256mb ram but I don't really think It has something to do with my problem so I'll just show what the hell is happening... I tried to unistall Norton AV and Norton Internet Security because it's wasn't working anymore but I got This. I also got this error when I try to run RhinoBlocker (my popup blocker, but I think you figured it out) I don't know how I can fix this and now it's preventing me from running them. And it has nothing to do with Spywares or Virus, Spybot S&D + AD-Aware + AVG are doing the job. |

Reinstall Windows. Just pop the CD in and run setup.exe from the root directory.

actually that's a bad idea installing windows over top of windows is dumb.... looks like your Microsoft Installer files are corrupted though..... my suggestion would be...... get a boot disk cd c:\ del *.* deltree windows deltree progra~1 then install windows again |

Erk, please consider people who aren't familliar with DOS who might try that to fix something. First of all, back up everything, then reboot in DOS mode and do format c:\, then reinstall. But given that error, I would wonder if you have a virus; that's not like any runtime error I've seen, and it seems very unlikely that more than one program would use that style. (Plus, I don't believe Visual C++ has runtimes at all. ) |

Try reinstalling the runtime libraries from microsoft... if that doesn't work then you'll need a Windows reinstall. You're sure that your virus scanner is doing its job (You've udated its defenitions recently?) Try TrendMicro's Housecall...

Hey, Win98 still kicks ass, no matter how many times I've reinstalled it! Switch off PC, insert W98 setup disk, reboot reinstall... OR.... I get this error every time I open Outlook. But if you simply reopen the program once it has closed it should cause no problem. I find it rather annoying myself, but I couldn't bear to reinstall this winxp. |
