I heard about this website called anticAPSLOCK and its mission is to basically have the Caps Lock key removed from future manufactured keyboards. I don't have a problem with the Caps Lock key but I do hear a few people complaining about it. They say like their pinky accidentally hits the Caps Lock key all the time and it irritates the living hell out of them. Personally, I don't really give a shit about it because I can just hold down the Shift key but I hear a lot of people that really want it removed from future keyboards.

I want to hear your opinion about this topic. I also want to hear whether you guys want it removed or not and why?

I rarely hit the caps lock key on accident

becuase I actually know how to type

so maybe they should start a campaign for free typing lessons

instead of removing my YELL BUTTON.....

Um... well... let's see... SOMETIMES <---like that, I tap caps lock really fast so that I can either emphasize something or "yell", and then I quickly tap it again when I'm done... I never hit it by mistake... so... KEEP IT! <---another reason to keep it!

I voted yes because no one else did, and as a reason why. Ive actually never purposely used my caps locks key.

Not really.

I just find it useful for whenever the situation calls for it.

I don't have a problem where I GO CAPS ALL of A SUDDEN because I hit the key.

Oddly enough I use the shift key when typing long strings of caps. Doesn't matter to me either way, but some people out there must have some huge-ass pinkies.

I dont really care. If I ever need a long sting of keys, Ill use sticky keys.

Which brings up my question. Who though we would even need a capslock key in the first place.

...Wait... How do people accidentally hit Caps Lock? That's a rather... Big slip. Unless they're using some odd keyboard. Like the Microsoft Natural (? Whichever that curved one it)...

In case not understood: I vote no. Or indifferent. One or the other. It's not like the key is THAT easy to accidentally hit.

Hmm... If the Caps Lock was taken out, what'd replace it? Things could only get worse.

I sometimes accidentally have the caps lock hit, but it's usually by me throwing shit to the left side of my keyboard and missing. If anything, move it, but don't take it away altogether, since it can be useful from time to time.

I only use the caps lock key to imitate lamers mostly (which isn't very often anyways), or "yell". I don't "hate" it, nor do I really use it. So, I pick: I DON'T GIVE A SHIT!!! <---Caps Lock used there.

like erk said, if you know how to type, hitting it accidentally isn't that much of a problem. and if you're like me, you watch the text input box as you type and/or give it a once-over after typing it, so if you accidentally hit it, you'd notice before sending the message/making the post/whatever.

what ought to be done is giving lessons on how not to be a lamer and use all-caps for stupid things. like many things, there are legitimate uses of caps-lock (for example, most #define terms in C programming are all-caps, and it's easier to type e.g. FOO_BAR_VALUE with caps-lock on than to have to go back and forth between shift keys to do it manually).

one key that ought to be removed, though: Scroll Lock. I'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to do (I think something along the lines of making the up/down arrow keys scroll the document window instead of moving the cursor up/down one line), and regardless, I don't think anyone even uses it except as an extra bindable key in Q3, or something.

or, on a more pratical level: don't remove the Enter key, but, ban any keyboard on which the Enter key spans over more than one row of keys. that's how it is on my keyboard, and that's all well and good except the \ key, which normally is over the Enter key (below the backspace key) becomes a tiny little key next to the backspace key. and I'm not very good at picking one key out of many in that area of the keyboard (I rarely type +/= or \ correctly on the first try without having to look at the keyboard).

I never use it. When typing long strings of caps for whatever reason, I leave my left pinky finger on the shift key, and if I need to type A, Q, or Z I just move over my ring finger. I want it removed so idiots on message boards at least have a tougher time being idiots. I do like binding it to various options for various reasons, however, so I wouldn't mind have a 'this has no obvious use' key in it's place.

And also ban backspaces that are smaller than the standard 2+ key widths.

I really doubt that Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock will disappear from keyboards in the near future.

(...then again, how many of us USE Scroll Lock? )

I know how to type, I don't accidentally hit the button, others might need it. It's a keyboard standard so it's not going anywhere.

I want to start a campaign to get the right Shift key moved away from the Enter key. I don't know how many times I've accidentally entered something in mIRC because I mis-Shifted...

I would also like to get the Windows and...menu-thingy keys replaced with something infinitely more useful. Honestly, who uses those?

As for Scroll Lock, it's used by some KVM switches (mine) to switch between computers, since it's without a doubt the least-often used key. They might as well start giving it a different name, like maybe F13 or something.

The Caps Lock Key is the most useless key on the keyboard. I've never used it, I simply USE SHIFT IF I WANT TO YELL. I'd like to see the caps lock removed, not because it's in the way, don't think I've ever accidentally hit it, but rather because of the annoying people who don't know how to turn it off.
