For all those not attending college yet, where do you peoples plan on going and why? What's the best part about it?

If you aaare in college, where do you go and why did you choose that specific college? What'cha majoring in?

I'm not really too sure about it. I'm a junior and I should be reaching a decision and I kind of am but I'm not too sure. After recently visiting UCD, I kind of want to go there but just how there's nothing around it kinda bugs me . It's really nice and all but I dont know if I'd be satisfied. It's close to home which is good. I kind of want to just go and have a whole new experience somewhere else. I just want it to be close to home. I was thinking UC Santa Cruz since its by the purdy purdy ocean. Another thing about UCD is that it's not very diverse. I wouldn't be used to the non-diverseness. I wouldn't mind it a bunch though. I don't want to leave this coolio state of Cali. I'd miss the sun and everything else.

I'm currently a junior, and I really want to pursue some sort of English or Creative Writing major, though I worry that employment would be scarce for a person of such talents.

One of the bigwigs at my school is close with the President of Bard College, a prestigious and altogether superb writing school in New York state. A senior at my school has already been accepted, though he's said that it was the influence of that man, a Mr. Brooks, as much as any other factor that got him in. My SAT scores are considerably higher than his, and my verbal has been near-perfect on the PSAT and on the SATs I've taken as a middle schooler, so I hope and pray that I have as much luck as my friend did.

My older brother is going to attend Iona, largely because he was able to earn sufficient aid money to bring the cost to a manageable level. I'm also looking at Marist, so it would seem that I will need some considerable scholarship assistance if I don't want to work off the student loans until I'm 100 years old .

Well, I was hoping to go to Northwestern's school of journalism, but there's a few things getting in the way of that.

1) I'm not gonna have a shot at a scholarship.
2) I'm moving to Cali, so I'd have to pay for housing or room and board if I went back to N'Western.
3) Less than 45% of the applicants make it, so I don't even know if I'll be accepted.

I'm looking at other Midwestern places... but now that I'm gonna be in the LA area, I should start looking out there.

EDIT: oh, and if not journalism, then I wouldn't mind being an English teacher. Even in California. Actually, in California, they are so desperate for teachers that they are giving people insentives to go get degrees in education and whatnot. Lots of oppurtunity to be a teacher in that state.

Ah, only four and a half weeks of school left. Then, in late mid August I leave to go to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend Indiana. It's a great school, my bro goes there, I can't wait. I'm majoring in Electrical Engineering/Computer Sciences. There are a couple things I'd like to do but I'll probably end up working on energy distributions and stuff like that. If not that then hopefully working in the game industry but I'm not too sure how well that's going to pan out. UCD, I know hella people going there, close to 50 from my school are going there.

I lasted about two months...yea, that's it. I had a full time job and I really didn't have that much money and I felt left out, so I left. I've been thinking about going to a tech school after I get things squared away with my car, but we shall see.

I was majoring in Communications. Only had three classes at the time too.

But I was fresh out of high school and, well, it's not for everyone, you know.

I plan on going to a technical school called Collins College next year and I will major in game design. I reason why I picked this school was because it has game design courses and that it is the closest college to my house. A few of my friends including KP9000@fter$hok is going at the same school as me. I think that the best part of going to this school is that I would have to leave my home and also that I would do something that I am actually interested in.

Heh go Irish! That's my hometown. My dad also went there and got a degree in Electrical Engineering. He works at a nuclear power plant now.

Game industry? Every guy and his little brother wants in on that...

As for me, I chose to go to Indiana University Bloomington for a few reasons.

1. Cheaper than the private school I was considering, and the private school was offering $9,000/yr in free money!

2. It accomodated my major better (Linguistics). I added Mathetmatics as a second major later, though. "What's your major?" has to be the most annoying question as it almost always comes up when meeting people.

3. In state tuition is cheap.

4. It seemed like a positive place with lots of diversity, people who actually wanted to be in school, as opposed to the secondary envrionment. (yes I know some people dont' want to be in college.)

5. Getting out of my hometown was imperative. Being near my folks just seemed so lame.

6. Bloomington has lots of shit going on, as it is a large campus of 40,000+ students. Concerts, opera, theatre, comedians like Dave Chapelle, many of them for cheap.

Negatives: IU is too much of a party school for my tastes sometimes. I enjoy going out and having a drink now and then but people here party too much IMO. I'm more of a serious student type. So make sure the idiom of the college fits your personality or you might feel out of place sometimes.

My goals are pretty much the same as Silvershield's except that his test scores are WAAAY higher than mine. So, I'm leaning more towards Communications than English or Creative Writing.

Right now, it's looking like Quinnepiak College, a college that I can't spell...

I'm going to goto college once I graduate in '06, but I'm not sure about what one yet. I have a few ideas, Virginia Tech, or maybe Concordia up north.

Crap, I have to cut this short, got to goto high school so I can get into college.

Edit: OK, now that I've gotten school'd, after college, there are 2 fields I'd like to go into: computers, or engineering.

If it was computers, I'd like to work at PC Gamer as an editor, or maybe "in the back" building computers.

If not, then I'd like to be an engineer, of the civil form, where you build things such as buildings, and bridges.

My brother was looking at Quinnipiac, and so I went to visit with him. The grounds really are beautiful, and I was pretty impressed with it overall.

If you're trying to brainstorm some schools that you'd like to look at, maybe head over to York as well. It was similar to Quinnipiac in most respects .

I go to The Ohio State University, and I chose it because it's an in-state school and they have a lot (180+) of majors to choose from in case I change my mind. I really like it here, especially in my dorm, Lincoln Tower. It's got 4 rooms in a suite, 6 suites on a floor, co-ed, which leads to meeting people extremely easily. Aside from being a great school, OSU is also a party school, which is pretty cool. And our football team kicks ass.

Edit: Oh yeah. I'm an Electical/Computer Engineering Major. And man I used a lot of commas in my post.

I go to Vanier College... I was planning on going to Dawson, but after looking at the differences in the computer science programmes, I decided to go with Vanier College. I was also thinking about going into the Communications programme, but instead I'll just try to get in Cinema at Concordia University.

Sheesh, I better say something in here at least. I gotta get going to a college soon. In fact, I'm planning to head to the exactly same college NSNick's at. The Ohio State University, since it's close by, is one of the reasons I chose it. I probably won't be living on campus, since it costs more... but that won't stop me from meeting any new people there. Hopefully the transition from high school to college won't be a rough one...

I plan on attending Thomas College in Waterville, ME. I'm going there for a BS in Software Development. With that, I either want to get into designing videogame levels or designing characters or get into an Internet security firm.

(blinkblink)

Quinnipiac University? When did THAT start getting big? (head-explodey)

I went there, graduated last year (BA in mass comm, almost finished a BA in political science). I'd recommend it if I were you. VERY nice campus, if not a little windy. I might go back if I have a chance.

Aw yeah. Though I forgot to mention it in my post- OSU's campus is usually pretty awesome, but construction is everywhere right now, so it's kinda meh.

I go to Reed College, a little hippie college in Portland, OR. Some of you may have heard of it, but just... Imagine taking all the intelligent liberals from Oberlin and giving them their own college, and you have Reed. I chose Reed because it's a beautiful campus, I'm fond of hippies (although I'm not one myself), and it's small and accessible and stuff. Also, the people are really smart. It's just.. my kinda place, I guess. Renn Fayre's theme this year was classic video games. They remade the mailroom into a dungeon from Mario 1 and there were cars driving around with bullet bills attached to them and stuff... my kinda place, see?

But, um... I'm a political science major. The department is having problems right now, but I still enjoy my professors and classes. Yea. Great. Go Reed.

I plan on waiting 2 years after high school to relax (and make money) before I go to college. I recently learned that a friend of mine (you know who you are ) is 2 years behind me, so that works quite well.

once you stop school...it is hard to go back again

anyways, I go to UC Berkeley and I'm an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Major. I chose UC Berkeley because my alternative was San jose State University (ever heard of it?). I had also applied to CalPoly and UCLA but they rejected me . One would think if you can get into one of the top public schools in the nation, you should be able to get into schools that rank below it.
