I am doing a research paper on genetically modified food in Europe. In the little research I've done (lazy power), I've found that they dislike the idea, much more than US.
Why? And what's your stance on this?
I gotta go, I'll elaborate mine later.

Well, give us a good reason to get it and we might. I can't see any reasons to modify food today.

In Sweden, or at least where I live, there really isn't any genetically modified food.
I do think modified food is bad though, like Jilkon said, give me a good reason why we need to have it

For starters, it would help farmers to genetically modify their crop so that they don't have to spray shit on it that can possibly harm the crop. If it is genetically altered, it can keep bugs away without having to do that.

i don't see anything wrong with genetically modified food...the reason europeans have a big problem with it is religion based and the fundamental question of humans playing god..because with genetically modified foods, that is what we essentially are doing...

however, such a technology can be abused as it might be possible to produce something that looks exactly like a known edible food item like corn and make it so that if anyone eats it, they will die...now that is a scary thought...

Hey! I made a cool game! It's called "I poisoned half the food, so if you eat you might die!" Have a taco.

The great potato famine could have possibly been prevented with genetically altered potatoes. Or at least evidence suggests that. And that would be another reason why genetically altered food could be good.

I personally don't have any problem with eathing GMFs, as long as I know exactly how it's been modified. But I eat them all the time without even knowing that much.

I think it could be important to note in that paper that plants which now have a natural defence against insects will eventually promote the evolution of insects that can eat them, anyhow. The ones harmed by the GMFs will die off, leaving those that aren't to grow and prosper.

Same thing with herbicide-proof veggies. Some farmers feel that it's okay to use rediculous amounts of herbicides to kill weeds now that it won't affect the crops. However, this method may eventually result in herbicide-proof weeds.

One of those sites against it.

I don't have a problem with it. Until conclusive studies are done to prove they're harmful, load up the corn.

Yea, GM foods will revolutionize agriculture. They'll be able to make crops in the sea and stuff. D:<

There are a few main objections to GM foods, though:

1) They could be unsafe
2) They could disrupt ecosystems
3) They'll further drive poor 3rd world farmers out of business and create economic dependence on rich countries

The third one is the most important, but... that's not really relevant to Europe. I think it's mostly about the first concern there.. which is largely bullshit. They'll get over it.

Most people are more paranoid that it's harmful to them in some weird way than anything else, because they don't understand what it means. When they hear "Genetically modified" they don't think of a corn plant that produces 2x as many ears of corn, a watermelon that is seedless, or a strawberry that is sweeter, they think of the 3-eyed fish from The Simpsons. Ignorance is bliss?

Yeah well, there IS no such thing as a seedless watermelon...liars. I wonder how many times I've gotten one with a gabillion seeds in it.

Toxic: Because they can't genetically engineer those seedless ones because they're "Dangerous" or whatever (the paranoia of the ignorant masses ruins it for everyone else). The "seedless" watermelons you buy are hybrid crosses that often have tiny white seeds instead of the big black ones.

Yeah, I should sue for false advertising.

I'm not against it nor for it. But I am intrested in it. I'm little unsure about it but it seems to be not that big problems with it...

We don't have so much GM food where I live, and I hadn't seen any big orginasations here against it either. Funny thing is that they practice GM at my school. Thought it's just "regular" bacteria.

However I would like to taste both GM and non GM food and see if there is any diffrence.

Edit: Ok I spelled bacteria wrong... fixed.

I don't care how it's made, just don't tell me, I'd rather not know, and eat it, and enjoy it, not know there's all kinds of weird stuff in it...
