WTF?
Well would you look at that. It would seem Nintendo has filed a patent for - get this - emulation. Something they didn't even invent. Not to mention, emulation is a frickin ACTION! Someone please explain how you can patent an action? Brb, I'm gonna go patent the act of pressing a key on a keyboard. I may not have invented it nor is it an actual physical object, but what the hell.

While GAME BOY.RTM. platforms are inexpensive and have long battery life, there may be situations in which it would be desirable to play or use applications developed for GAME BOY.RTM. on other platforms. For example, an airline, train or other vehicle passenger might want to play video games during a long journey. As shown in FIG. 1B, airlines are installing seat-back computer displays into the backs of airline seats. Such seat-back displays may provide a low cost personal computer including a processor, random access memory, liquid crystal display and input device(s). Similar displays could be installed in other vehicles (e.g., trains, ships, vans, cars, etc.) or in other contexts (e.g., at walk-up kiosks, within hotel rooms, etc.).
Understandable now, I heard that there was Gameboy games on certain airlines and other games.

So they just patented something that they actually use. And Nintendo dosen't seem to make any lawsuits against emulators anyway, past actions that other companies made hadn't been succeful.

Actually, with the new thing passed in the European Union, I believe you are allowed to patent such things as "word processing programs", meaning that any kind of program that allows you to type and then print will be patented by you. Quite scary, the new laws.

...ok, so are they going to use this "patent" to sue anyone else who has written an emulator or something? Really it should be the other way around, but ya know, emulation is now officially the big monkeys' toy... don't ask why I said that

Well, this is B.S., but meh, what can ya do?

I'm going as fast as I can! It's a mad rush down here! People are getting trampled over. I think I grabbed an old copy of Gens and an Apple IIe emulator but everything else is being grabbed up. It's like the movie Jingle All the Way except Emu style!

This only really effects emulators on things like PDAs, cell phones, etc. Plus, it's only applies to emulators for Nintendo handhelds. Emulators on a PC don't apply in relation to this patent.

Man, try to keep up! This news is like 2 months old!
