| I've just read Xkeeper's post and he makes some valid points (as well as the restaffing) you see, fif you just keep the staff there all the time it keeps them complacent and they might even get bored, that said I think for the most part ehry're ecellent, I hardly see them do their jobs (which is a compliment BTW). But... a reshuffle could be what might revitalise the MB,. I've been in your exact situation Staff members, so I know how frustrating this may look, the thing is no one's blaming you per se, just the genreral environment and suchlike. Oh and one more thing, I'm not aware of the details but having just checked in the Trashcan for the thread that lead to XKeeper's banning, whilst what he did was pretty childish, I've been insutled like that in the past, I've been trolled and this one user treated me like crap. He was merely warned once, not banned (although it was sufficient to stop the abuse). You can'tt have one rule for one offense and not another. Why should insulting a staff member be any different to insulting a normal user? It even says so "Banned for 3 days for insulting a staff member", as if Staff members are more worthy than the rest of us. | Valcion - I'm 24, and if you actually read my posts you'd realise that I had a few constructive points in there, however if you'd like me to leave then I'll do so *shrugs*. Surely airing our grieveances is our god given right, don't you believe in free speech over the pond? However when we do so we're told to "Shut the F*k up" is it any wonder that some people are disenchanted with the staff. I realise that a tirade such as this may lead to my banning, but to be honest I've lost track of what could lead to my banning at any rate. Perhaps I'm not intelligent enough, too outspoken and just to "Dumb" in your opinion to post here, I honestly don't know, however I've yet to see a rational and calm argument from a staff member replying to the grieveances that Xkeeper and others such as myself have highlighted. I've actually praised the staff here on many occasions, hell even in this THREAD, but I do have concerns. As it is, I'm keeping my concerns here, on this forum, away from most of the rest of the board, as I don't want a flame war on my hands, but it seems that even that is too much. I really don't want to leave, I like it here, and for the most part I'm "Living the fun posting experience" but there are one or two niggling things I don't like about this place and these things are growing by the day only to be slapped down when I mention them and being accused of being "whiny". Bloody hell I know how difficult it is to run a plac like this, but when dissenting voices like mine are gorwing by the day, the thing to do is LISTEN, not shout at us, not accuse os of all just "acting up", LISTEN and then give your side, calmly and cooly. Hardly anyone's done that so far. |

| Warning: The following is some random ramblings from me, in a format that's causing me to be too lazy to summarize at the moment. In the words of Danicess's old, old catchphrase: "Lovely". --- I dunno about the stricter rules thing. I only see it as a convenient thing that's enforced blindly. *shrugs* --- I completely agree about the "making fun of lamers" stuff. Then again, I'm a weird person. *shrugs* It annoys me to see people picking on lamers or idiots. I believe in just scooting a mouse out of a house with a broom, or tossing a dead mouse in the trash can. Unfortunately, cats prowl around Acmlm's, and they like to play with that mouse, dead or alive. I'd understand that it's fun to people, but I really can't see it as that when lamers themselves would do the same exact thing in their own message board. ----- About staff having special rights... I'm kinda two sided on this. After all, they are staff. However, I tend to think differently when I see cat prowlings, LOUD EXPLETIVES WITH ONOZ LAMER SLUG-LAZY SPEAK being yelled out, and blatant lack of respect for grammar. Respect.. that's the reason for my two sided thinking. There should be some respect for staff members, and I might understand why someone will be banned for insulting a staff member. If I see someone yelling and insulting my king, I would want to see something done to that person. However.. if someone brings forth valid reasons for yelling at my king, then I'll surely start to think that something's up with the king. And if a king takes down a person for breaking people's windows, and then the king starts breaking windows himself, I would surely think that maybe some change should happen with the king. ---- My take on milestone threads: It was alright when a message board is young. However, after the board grows up, lots of people are already reaching the milestone area. It's not something that's new anymore, and just becomes pointless because.. well, it's not special anymore. I've always believed that if you want to celebrate a milestone, then you should have another topic thrown in there as well, something that's actually worth talking about. I've always been doing this: posting my artwork with a sidenote of my milestone somewhere  .----- I'm too fond of the Story Forum and Sim Battle to leave this place. I also like my friends (I tend to think that all the SFers are my friends ) and I know that this is the only place that they all could be found at together.... | I'll start from what I posted on another board about said problems, those that want to bitch, do so now: Pff...Ace's doomed themselves after the dumbass IRC thing that happened in August of last year...ever since then Ace himself has been intentionally avoiding the board (life or just not wanting to because of the board's status, etc.) because he's basically bailing on everyone because he doesn't know how to lead a staff. Don't expect him to be administrator of anything IRL...or at least a very good one...he might have the makings of something really great...but if he can't lead worth shit...then he won't really get that high up in life. As for the rest of the staff...well shit...without a leader...obviously there's going to be scrounge for territory and playing around with users while no one's looking (Erkdog's admin and way of acting and Yiffy Kitten's Display Case fiascos prove that enough). This is psychological history in the making, my friends. It is positively brilliant watching a community evolve, prosper...and then wallow over an infection that festered into a decaying society of what we see as it is now. And how do you fix it? Well in medical terms...you would either die from it [board dies] or you amputate [in this case...kick staff...kick Ace himself...whatever...just do it] and use what's left. Obviously, with the way this has been shaping up, Ace doesn't want to do much...and he's pretty much already stated in the one LT thread over there that if he's going to come back full time then he's going to need help. I think what the poor guy needs at this point is encouragement...not people telling him a hundred thousand problems of what the fuck is wrong with the board that he doesn't already know. If he's anything like I'm thinking...he probably doesn't really feel good about himself, as with the board, at this point. I'd help but...you know...I can only do so much as a normal user over there...and frankly...my opinions go to shit regardless against other normal users who are on their and bitch and bitch and bitch because that's all they ever fucking do anymore on that damn board. You guys on Ace's should make your damn politics forum...hell...if -I- ever get access to that board's PMA...I'd freaking tear that place to pieces and build stuff up again. The board. needs. interest. I cannot stress that enough. That's why there's bitch threads and that's why there's problems with the staff and that's why Ace's doesn't care about the board anymore, lack of interest. Now I'll start with the recent posts here: Already stated, Ace is losing interest, board owner himself isn't impressed with the overall standard of board life here and obviously...since he hasn't been here for quite a while now (I'm about to pass him in posts and I do a half-assed job of posting as of late)...it's safe to assume that the board's functionality in terms of programming or whatever...is not the problem. Inject whatever the fuck you want into the board programming-wise...but it won't mean shit if there isn't a community that gives a damn about it. As I said, I wouldn't mind seeing the staff totally smoked right now...especially after some of the...BULLSHIT...I've been seeing lately. I'll take Kirbynite's piece for example: Respect.. that's the reason for my two sided thinking. There should be some respect for staff members, and I might understand why someone will be banned for insulting a staff member. If I see someone yelling and insulting my king, I would want to see something done to that person. This is basically the 'rough' sketch of what us, the normal members, are -supposed- to abide to. Here's the problem: 1) Your leader has been gone since about a year ago. 2) Your current staff is in disarray because of certain power abuse. 3) No one gives a shit and everyone likes to bitch. We need grow up. Here's my take on your respect issue. Every single person on this board...or anyone that commits a decent amount on here...is basically equal in my book, staff as well except they have added responsibility...everyone's a person and everyone's got their own life problems and whatnot...we should know that much. What makes a difference in the respect thing is that it should not be commanded to be made, it should not be made from rule by fear, it should not be made because of sucking up or stupidity...no...you get respect from me and I would hope a few members of this board if you go through and do your job and do your job well...just as you would if you worked and did this for cash. Take you job seriously but have fun doing it. That should be the staff code right there. Some people take it too seriously and go nuts like Valc does from time to time in threads. Some people have fun like Yiffy Kitten and the Display Case threads...but you don't see that being pushed with seriousness, more like spam. Some aren't having fun at all, take Ace and a majority of the staff that have up and left. You guys -NEED- interest...and a few goodbyes on behalf of your staff. Plus, I believe Ace himself needs some definite encouragement about getting his baby back in order because obviously people bitching to him about everything, like I stated previously, isn't going to help him. I would say that some people just need to selflessly give up their roles on staff but I know for a damned fact that's not going to happen. So obviously, there's going to be a lot of hurt in order to get this board back and kicking again, if you guys on staff are willing that is, but continue like this...and it's just like any community...divided you fall. Checkmate. Game over. EDIT: I'll add this as well from X: Acmlm in the Board Position 2 pollSounds like how Anya feels recently, as well. But yes... that's pretty much how it is; Ace does not want to be there any more. If anything Ace definitely needs to step back and just ignore everything for a moment and consider. I'd have to say these things might work, although... it's just my opinion, ovbiously, and if you want to make corrections go ahead. 1. Close the forums for a few days. 2 days won't kill anyone. 2. Demote everyone. 4. Step back for a moment and look who should go where. Do not rely on advice. 5. [re]Create the forum setup as you like, don't rely on others again. 6. Rely on yourself as admin for a while, and mabye a trusted user or at most two. Ace's has more admins than full mods at the moment and that's fucking outrageous. 7. Relieve rules for a while. Mabye bring back Big Topics, and see 8: 8. REMOVE THE GOD DAMNED POST COUNTS. Put them in profiles or have them optional for the side bar [disabled by default]. Use the time registered instead; anyone can spam up to 1000, but it takes a much longer amount of time to reach a respected time. 3 years is almost under my belt but you'd never know it. And the IRC thing? God, I remember that. I still have the Erkdog image. Both of them. I'm going to make Lexian 14 sooner or later, basically saying "Erkdog admined? What the hell? | HIryuu for Admin I agree with most of what's been said, About the other board I've refered to, my beloved Citadel (and I've been there since the start and the place is like my spiritual online home, so I'm alowed to call it "my beloved"), the problems I mentioned, the ones that are only now beginning ended ujp ripping the community apart, what happened is that most of the usersemigrated to other MBs (some are now staff here), the Cit is a shadow of it's former self, but it's a lot calmer and a lot smaller. the people there now only have vague memories of what happened and although it's not the place it once was, it's still "home". Y'see instead of dying the place went supernova and the smaller place was left. Hiryuu - I undertsnad how it looks like I'm mindlessly bitching, but to be honest it's all I CAN do, I have interest and experience at wethering the strom, but I'm only a regular user, and and a not very influential one at that. You can't even call me an Acmlm "oldbie" either, unless you're refering to my age. I like this place a lot, but I just don't like what it's become sometimes. Actually for the most part the MB is actually alright, but there are one or two destructive elements that threaten to rip this place to pieces unless it stops right now. As for HOW to stop, if you want action, well I completely agree with what you said. Especially post counts, mind you I do feel that three years is a bit of a long time to wait for a personal title, a LOT can happen in 3 years. |

| No, not Hiryuu for admin, he's only good below me, full mod is ok I miss the fun. Now it's just bitching, or staff bitching about people bitching. I've seen staff flame more than some users that get banned. More staff that just feeds crap to the board (HELLO DISPLAY CASE WITH ONE BILLION LAMER THREADS, ITS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE). No "benchmarks" were allowed at 2k, only 5 and 10k. That was the case on the old board anyway. Don't know how it is now, don't care either. If people make one and they have fun, I won't stop them. | (I just woke up, so don't freak out if my post is a bit... odd) I used to utterly love this board. Right now, I use it 99% for the RO thread, and the percent left is when I'm asked to look at something. That's how intresting it is now. And I know I'm not the only one. Whenever I do look at some other parts of the forum, there's barely anyone left I recognize, or their reputation proceeds them through IM/other boards. There's very few normal regulars left, and the other two active parts are staffmembers and idiots. Why are you (staff) making fun of people who obviously can't even clean their ass properly, but not doing anything against the quality (or total lack thereoff) of threads lately? Aside from making most of those yourself, ofcourse  I cannot respect authority figures who don't seem to know how to handle themselves, or who seem to think their own rules do not apply to themselves. I was part of staff for a very short time, and when I left, I was told I could always get back. I never saw a reason to though, because of how you people can't seem to work in group. In my oppinion, the biggest reason for that is because there's way too many of you, and part of that group is so stuckup it's getting hilarious. And you just keep on adding people. Why? For the latest promotion for example, why is Toxic mod of general forum? Because he's active there? Then make Kefka mod of FF and craziness, and Kario should be on OC. I don't even know Toxic, I'm just saying that the last thing this board needs is even more staff. And none of you can do your jobs well. Be it through inactivity, lack of teamspirit, or thinking that because your username is a different color, that allows you to play dictator here. Just keep one thing in mind, for whatever it's worth: the way you're all acting now, you'll be left with a dead board to boss the few lamers left around on. Call me what you want, but I think if you let some of this sink in, you'll know there's some truth in it. |

| I'd be behind Milly 100% if he was to come back. I think that a lot of us would be as well. I don't think you have to do all the work around here, Milly, but you have to make your presence known. If there's something that you don't like, state that. If you want a certain feature to be worked on or want a staff change, state that as well. You have a lot of respect here and I know that virtually everyone on staff would listen if you spoke up. I mean... look at the title of the board. Not so much the slogan, but the first two words on the top. I'd like to see it remain like that, and I'd hope that you would as well. |
