Well, what I said operated on the premise that Kario hadn't really done anything new worth banning him over. Colleen said it "would've gotten worse", and that triggered the due process comment... banning someone for something they might do in the future is... not due process.

Hint: My name is a palindrome. Keep that in mind, and it's not that hard.

And I'm not an idiot, I realize that admins don't necessarily have to abide by due process or free speech or whatever, but usually they like to maintain the image that they do. And if the admins here didn't, this discussion would've been over a while ago, since they wouldn't feel that they have to justify themselves.

I'm going to say it again, but this time in bold.

Due process need not apply here. You do not fucking own it, nor will you ever.

Due process in action

That pretty much justifies their actions

Yeah, because saying "Wow, I didnt realize so many people here were complete assholes." isn't any reason at all... none whatsoever... and the fact that he didn't learn enough from MULTIPLE bans not to post threads like that isn't reason either (you know, "I came back from a ban! Yay! Here's what I did! *stupid attempt at humor*).

I do not normally give second chances, but that is up to you. The board at TEK is tight, and by tight i mean REALLY tight. And its for a good reason. In this situation, i would not unban him.

Sure. The only thing that saved my posting excellance from being gone forever was the board restart. Even though it was for multiple accounts, not spam like most banguys/girls (get it?), second chances are very reviving if the misbehavior doesn't come back when the user does. Of course, it's different if the board has a place where acting stupid, posting warez, etc. is ok. That's a feature MY board has, but it's empty of visitors in general. One really dumb user here was that brian_reeves. I'm generous on board behavior, though sometimes you have to get rid of those pests. Maybe I'll apply if a staff position ever opens. I've been here 2 or 3 years after all.

I looked at almost all of the recent posting Kario had done. He almost always seemed to have had a rationale for posting what he did, even the "I'm unbanned" thread had a point to it, in his view. I was kind of irritated that in that thread (which I didn't post in) just about everybody who was flaming him posted "no one cares". If you don't care, WHY ARE YOU POSTING IN THE THREAD? Isn't that just as bad as spam? I believe that's outlined in the faq.

In general, I think banning him was not terribly productive. If he does spam or post useless things sometimes, well, so be it. Any thing that he says that is stupid comes out of his awkward thought process - it's not like his spelling is bad nor is his reasoning. His posting in boards that have a specific purpose, i.e. rom hacking, is quite reasonable.

In short, I haven't known Kario for a long time but I think this whole issue was blown way out of proportion, at least in terms of his posting of late. (Of course I can't see his PMs )

Which was absolutely no one.

If Kario got unbanned, he would eventually get banned again. I think people are missing this key point.

Okay, fair enough. My definition of flaming is a bit broad. Point being is that at the thread http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=2443, Kario presented his week as having both negatives and positives, and nowhere did he claim to be upset and whine and yet you get responses of the sort:

Toxic: Watch out General Hospital, cause here comes Kario: Tourtured Soul

Valcion: DUDE I HAVE STEVEN SPIELBERG ON THE PHONE AND HE WANTS TO MAKE A MOVIE OUT OF YOUR LIFE KARIO! DONT LEAVE

Captions from Cymoro's Pics: Boo Fucking Hoo, Guess What No One Gives a Shit!

If I got that response from people I'd be mighty pissed off. So what do you think of that?

I'm not going to argue about this, I've send Yiffy Kitten a PM on this subject (he sent me a PM first, which was nice of him), but I will say that I'm generally siding with MathOnNapkins on this subject.

Also, Legion, you have to remember that there are different ways to 'flame' without using direct insults. Indirect insults, for example. Call it trolling, if you must, it amounts to the same thing in the end, right?

Aaaanyway... *Flees before he gets attacked or something*

Using that logic, if you can call it that, then EVERYTHING is flaming/trolling.

Look, life isn't fucking fair so get the fuck over it and quit your fucking whining ok? Damn I hate you people. (OMG NO FLAME OMG SHIT NO!!!!!1111111)

Yeah I said I hate you people, are you going to cry yourself to sleep tonight too?

Damn straight I am. I'm sorry but I can't stand immature little babies who can't take a joke or a few jabs here and there. I also can't stand people who cry a fucking river every time the SLIGHTEST injustice happens in this world.

The worlds not perfect.
You're not going to change it.
Yes Virginia, bad things DO happen.
We don't live in the magical realm of Earth where good fairyfolk make all the little kids happy with gumdrops and rain-fucking-bows.
You're going to have to get used to it.

Fucking deal! It's not even that big of an issue either. That's what gets me the most.

This is not fucking mechanation of war, or a force of nature, some act of God. This is an internet message board, where someone is supposedly in control...

We are not talking about changing the world - I know you just itch to come up with angry, hyperbole-ridden responses but c'mon, you're not fooling me.

Fucking deal! It's not even that big of an issue either. That's what gets me the most.

If it's not that big a deal then why did Yiffy Kitten create this thread?

And again, if it's not that big of an issue, why are you posting here? If I see something I could give two shits about I ignore it, and it works just fine for me. :p

Anyways I've said my piece. I don't think Kario's going to get unbanned, I just thought I'd state my opinion on the matter.

Yeah, they are in control. That's why he was banned. Next!

"We are not talking about changing the world - I know you just itch to come up with angry, hyperbole-ridden responses but c'mon, you're not fooling me.

The only one who's fooling you is yourself. I was using it as an example.

"If it's not that big a deal then why did Yiffy Kitten create this thread?"

HOLY FUCK! How many fucking times does it need to be said? READ THE THREAD! Here's some instructions:

1. Read the first post.
2. No, READ the first post.
3. Read the whole thing.
4. Oh no you don't, you skipped some. Go back and read every sentence in the post.
5. Read the second post.

And continue on like that. Maybe, just maybe then you'll get the answer that you're looking for. It's out there about 4-5 times.

"And again, if it's not that big of an issue, why are you posting here?

People are MAKING it a big issue. That's why I'm posting here. And sorry, but I'm not going to go away that easily.

"If I see something I could give two shits about I ignore it, and it works just fine for me. :p"

Why would you want to ignore something you care about? Makes no sense but whatever.

Yeah, they are in control. That's why he was banned. Next!

Taken literally, this could be made to justify the holocaust:
"The Nazis were in control. That's why the Jews were murdered, because the Nazis in control make all the right decisions right?."

The only one who's fooling you is yourself

please, I speak my mind after careful thought and consideration. Hyperbole is an effective tool of persuasion, don't play dumb. Next! as you say.

READ THE THREAD!

I've read this whole damn thread. The fact is that you failed to engage the question earlier as well. You're using that as an excuse to not engage me in argument. (AKA a rhetorical manuever called evasion.) Shame. Try intelligent argumentation rather than looking for ways to make me look stupid (ineffectual though they may be). I know you're a cool guy but cut the crap. (anticipated response, but OMG you're only making yourself look stupid! ...bah)

Yiffy Kitten: (first post) "I'm actually letting this up to you guys, the mass, the posters of the board - i'll let you be democratic!", "we don't want a totalitarian board here, freedom of speech is allowed"

If Yiffy Kitten didn't think this was an important issue he wouldn't have posted a thread about it. You can bleat all day long about how you think it's not a big issue but like you said yourself, people have already made it a big issue. You're only reinforcing my point by coming here. It's the equivalent of going to an anime board and saying "anime sucks it's so pointless, let's talk about how pointless it is."
You read "Should Kario be Banned?" and thought, "Well I'll just go tell everyone what a nonissue it is." If that were the case, you'd be wasting everyone's time. The premise of your reactive "fit" is that "we can't change the world" or some shit. Notice that Yiffy Kitten wanted this to be a democratic discussion. If you don't want us to be democratic/progressive, don't waste thread space.

However, if your viewpoint is that the ban was justified (as it obviously is, don't beat around the bush) just say so, and why. What you are essentially saying is a vote "No" in the poll, and telling everyone to shut up. You call that democratic?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some idealist. I've had my share of political bullshit fall upon me and I've heaped it upon others. But what you are doing is unproductive, Legion.

Why would you want to ignore something you care about? Makes no sense but whatever.

Okay, there is something out there called context dependent discourse analysis, usually required for phrases where the opposite of the literal meaning is intented.

For example, "I could care less" == "I couldn't care less." in some contexts. In fact, my native intuition favors the former option. And in the context of my original phrase, would you honestly say aloud "I couldn't give two shits."? probably not.
