| I know some of you are scared by long posts. This isn't that complicated; I urge you to read through it. Okay. There's a lot of talk by certain members of the board along the lines that they have brought about huge amounts of unverifiable and inevitably positive changes to the place as a whole. Well, okay. So this is the idea. TWO POINTS. 1. What lasting impact have YOU, PERSONALLY, had on the board? Now, I'm not saying you need this to validate your existence, but if you want to feel like a big shot, go ahead and give your thoughts on the matter. Of course, nothing's stopping you from posting something completely false and/or ridiculous, which brings me to point two. 2. If someone makes a claim you know is misguided or just wrong, debunk it. If their point is DEMONSTRABLY FALSE or just plain ridiculous, call their bluff in front of the whole board. Okay, let's begin. Despite my best attempts at making my presence here known in my early days (examples: fancy layouts, hissy fits in the staff forums, vague and confused poetry, over 3000 posts, etc.), I only made one lasting impact, and it was quite accidental. While reading old posts, I noticed the use of > _> and < _< in several of Wyv's comments. I'd never seen them before, but I liked the way they looked, so I "borrowed" them and started using them way too often. (People who were in IRC a lot will remember this... I'd go on for several lines at a time with < _< > _> < _< > _>..) At first, some of the people who noticed got confused.. I remember several people asking me what the hell they were. They became kind of a running joke; Acmlm did some quick gag about looking both ways before crossing the road. However, it slowly got integrated into common conversation. Wait, what did he say? Yes, that's right: I popularized < _< and > _> at this board. Now there are even graphical versions of them (which I don't use... they're not bad, but they don't really have the same meaning as the originals). This may seem outrageous, but I'm sure my claims can be verified if the backup of the old board ever surfaces. I'm sure some people remember, and can back me up as well. But I'd like to know what legacies you all think you've left behind. EDIT: Wow. Okay, maybe I should point something out. I don't want to sound rude, but I didn't create this thread as "What did or didn't you contribute etc." No fewer than seven people have posted to say that they've contributed nothing. CONGRATULATIONS. I DON'T CARE, AND NEITHER DOES ANYONE ELSE. Maybe it was clever the first time or two, but seriously, I was hoping for an actual discussion. Maybe I was hoping for too much. Maybe? | I think it's safe to say that I've done absolutely nothing. Other than having one of the shortest lived moderatorships in the history of the board, I've done nothing here. I was moderator of Modern Art for a little while, but not long. I have TRIED many times to get a Political/Contraversial/Religious Discussion type forum up and running, and while the responses from users have been positive towards this idea each time, it has never eventuated. (Staff too busy, don't like the idea? I don't know, they never say in any of the threads....) So.. uh.. I've done a whole lotta nothing. |

| Can't say you did nothing ChibiTaryn, you brought good art to the Modern Art forum, and that place is stinking when you don't have a recent art to show us =) I dunno what I brought, but I'll try harder than Kefka. I guess I once brought my idea of humour, and it was intergrated with the general craziness of the board. Now I contribute stuff the way I see it, and if I don't like it, it won't stay hidden. |

| Well... I proved that users (perma)banned from the old board can return with no trouble at all if they don't repeat their mistakes. My SMW hack got me into the LM help file, because it helped the program's creator fix a bug. I've never been or asked to become a moderator. I probably don't have the skills (what do moderators do anyway?) for such work. I'm also one of the few people here who has never changed my primary username or tried to get a custom title, even during that whole "gender swap" scene. | |||

| Eh, I mostly cause trouble. But it's constructive trouble. It's not trouble for trouble's sake - that's trolling. It's trouble because I enjoy challenging others, and being challenged in return. Some people have yet to understand this, but I'll probably continue on this path.. until I get banned. Although since it hasn't happened yet, I'm not as sure that it'll happen in the future as I once was. In all seriousness, I like to think I have a net positive influence on the SMW hacking forum - where I hung out before I "branched" to the general forums. Although it doesn't seem like much is getting done there recently, I try to.. help out. |

| I made furries well known, which I personally believe *has* to be a good thing... ^-^;; I also accidently contributed to two fads; being female while actually being male for a long peroid of time, which was copied by a few members and then snowballed. And I've got a few people on the board that go 'omg, furreeeez' all the time. Ragh. Annoying. ...So I haven't really 'contributed' in a good way. O.o'' I have contributed a little to SMW hacking, offering my advice to hacks and the occasional bit of help for someone who's having trouble. I have contributed a wealth of Mario information. O.o'' I have contributed a new Ptooie sprite for the Ptooie rank. I will eventually contribute a set of Zelda ranks... Which may or may not be used, but hopefully will. But other than that, I have contributed nothing much. Furries, a rank, and a small amount of SMW hacking information. Blah. I suck. Feel my angst. |
