Man, senior ball comin' up in two weeks and I'm poor as a mother. Anybody else going through stress and money problems due to their proms. Not too much stress with me anymore but a lot of money woes. And my friends keep bitchin' that I never do anything with them if we have to spend money. Maybe they'd understand if they were going too and had to drop close to half a g on this bad boy.

Prom really shouldn't be that expensive. Especially for a guy. When I went to my girlfriend's prom, it was... ~$100 for a tux, $20 for the ticket, and that's about it. No limo, no special shit. And you really should be able to save $120. I guess if all of your friends are doing fancy shit, it'd suck, but... yea.

As I was driving my date to prom 3 years ago we saw a place being broken into and cops surrounding the place carrying shotguns. Maybe they had a hard time paying for prom too...

With our Formal's it seems like the girls spend like twice as much as the guys on their formal. I find the fancy car is really useless because all you do is arrive in it and that's it and hardly anyone takes any notice of you, well that's how it was with ours.

I spent about $500 on my junior prom. I don't know how you managed that one, hhallahh.

Seriously, one of my friends is going through this right now. He's trying to scrape together enough cash for the prom. You may have to cut a lot corners if need be.

At least for me, we had a great time, I danced my ass off, and my date was beautiful. If that's not incentive enough, I don't know what is.

Eh, prom was boring and the dj sucked. Bout the only thing I got that was good out of it was this sweet drinking glass and a meal by a professional chef beforehand. I was out with people I usually saw in an academic setting and it was really disgusting to see them acting so promiscuously at prom.

$120 is easy to save? Since when?

Anyways...didn't go to either of mine because the Junior Prom I was out for a good half a week due to getting my wisdom teeth out...and the Senior one I didn't go because there was literally no point...there wasn't really an issue about me having to go as is...and my social standing in the school of 92 was probably just that, #92.

So obviously, it wasn't one of those things I really have a problem with missing...if anything, I'm pretty sure that I went over to a friend's house the night that there was prom and did something there that was far more entertaining than any prom from my high school could possibly have been.

That can be taken many, many ways.

On a side note I'll probably not go to either of them. Why bother? Waste of money plus it's not like I'd ever have a reason to go XD

Why do people automatically assume I meant something perverted when I type something that isn't discrete?

Prom at my school was this past weekend...I didn't go because:
- I don't have a girlfriend.
- I hate dressing up formally.
- I don't even own any formal clothes.
- I'm on the same School Social Level as the average mosquito, so everyone there would be saying "Why are YOU here?"
- They never play good music at those things.
- Who cares? I'd rather be on the Internet or playing video games.

True friends don't value a friendship on the thickness of your wallet
As for me, it was some time ago when I was to prom, in May 2001.
But there are other price categories, the school rent a large hall and charged each pupil who finished school with 50 DM then [~25 Euros, since it was not the state's currency then) for each person who wanted to come
And not everyone wore only the most expensive stuff; I anyway don't like tux and uniforms at all ... except on the prom I never wore it again. But on the other hand the prom was fun; meals were included and the drinks were almost affordable ... some of people used this to drink more and more

Problem is, in America you can't drink at that age. In fact, they try to get you to sign forms saying that you won't drink that night... it's called "prom promise" = load of crap

You have a computer. Therefore, we can assume there are those in a worse financial state than you. My stepdad is unemployed and my mom is bringing in like 35K a year right now (as a lawyer who was once a judge! ), yet I still have enough cash in my account to buy my own comp. I'm not poor. And neither are you. Quit whining, seriously. And um... what kinda things were you GETTING for prom? Champaigne? I mean, if you had to sacrifice your whole life savings on it, you either 1) were overspending or 2) never had that much of your own to begin with.

Kefka, cut the "shut up, feel sorry for the people poorer than you." crap. No one appreciates it. The point is, for a student, this guy is broke. Owning a computer is not indicative of being rich or poor. As for your financial state, that's nice, but ask me if I care.

I, too, feel the pinch of prom season. But the thing is, I cut back on expenses. I only spring for the tickets for my date and I, and no other frills. I am lucky my date doesn't care, but if your date is more picky, try to split the cost among friends.

Yeah, just because you have a comp doesn't indicate your financial status. Mines 3-4 years old and slow. They filed bankruptcy, we're still broke and I haven't gotten new clothes since Freshman year (I got clothes from the thrift store..which isn't as good as brand new ones..) Anyways..

I didn't go to my Junior Prom. I didn't have enough money. I was broke..still am. I plan on going to Senior Ball..hopefully if I have money and a boyfriend . People said the prom wasn't that good anyway. Next year will be better. I'm not gonna go all out for it but I'll start saving for stuff like that in a awhile.

Prom cost $2 for me.

I'm not joking. Ticket was $50, take away $48 from fund-raising contributions... bingo.

Plus I needed to get a suit/etc. because I also had a wedding to attend as well. And that was a parental contribution since it was permanent.

Fine, I apologize for being a jackass. And yeah, I could understand how prom could empty your wallet... Sorry, I had just gotten done reading the replies in Kario's little thread, and um, well, I was in the mood of "stfu, no one's gonna be going boo-hoo like you want them to"... but that obviously doesn't apply here. My bad.

Whoa! I hate you! 2 friggin dollars, damn!

Wait, so, one thing I don't get... you mean high school students actually get married on their prom night? Never heard that one before... usually they get married sometime in the middle of the year (like at my school) or after the school year.

I didn't attend the recent Junior Prom, but it cost several hundred dollars for most of my friends. The ticket was in the $60 range, the limo came out to around $120 per couple, and I have no idea how much the tux rentals were. Pretty crazy if you ask me, considering 6 hours of mindless fun can be had far cheaper.

If you are in a tight money situation, the only solution is to find a job. Find something simple but with decent starting pay, and work as many hours as you're physically able until you have enough saved up .

Yeah, I don't know about that prom being cheap thing. Lemme break it down for you.

ticket - $85 x2 = $170
tux - $100 x1 = $100
limo - $65 x2 = $130
party - $25 x1 = $25
------------------------------
total = $425.00

so yeah, not many places i can cut back on costs. And I'm not saying that I'm poor and need pitty, it's just a lot of money that's all. I have enough to pay for it, got me a job for a while, but it sucks having to part with so much. But it's worth it, it's a lot of fun and my girl really wants to go so I gotta do it, but I'd do it just for fun even if I wasn't going with my girl.

Me and my friends haven't got a prom this year. We're only freshers, so there's no need for one.
That didn't stop us celebrating in style, though! We all went out to the rock night at the student's union last night and moshed around, stone drunk, to music including Powerman 5000, Rammstein, Offspring, Rob Zombie and Muse
