My friend's mom just died of a stroke as of late. I feel really sad, but he feels even worse. Is there any good way to make him feel better?

Man, this is way beyond the scope of me. I don't think there is a way to cheer him up, but time heals everything...

Try being their for your friend, tell this friend that you are their and if your friend needs a sholder to cry upon you will be their. It isen't easy losing someone

yeah...be there for your friend and be there to comfort him, not to cheer him up--yes, there is a difference between the two. but anyways, do whatever you can for him because it is his friends and family he will need the most

As everyone else has said be there for your friend, Also I guess try to talk about other things as talking about your friends mum may make things worse for him as well as you. Or talk about the good stuff about his mum It's really hard though because everyone is different so you have to be careful, its difficult to know exactly what to do or say and don't stress out too much if you can't say the right thing to cheer him up just try to be there for him and let him know that you care. |

As neotransotaku said, don't try to cheer him up. I'd murder you if you told me to look at the bright-side after a funeral. And sometimes people need solitude to lick their wounds. Ask the dad/guardian/sibling when it's appropriate for you to come over so you don't pounce on him at the wrong moment (call them beforehand, perhaps). But don't try to change his frame of thought too much... just take it easy with him. And be prepared for bouts of silence should you two be in the same room with nothing to do, and he's affected badly. The last thing you want is to make him 'act' social and happy for your sake. |

My friend lost her mother to cancer recently, and I understand how it hard to figure out what to do for them. I suggest giving them some space for a while, and being extra - careful not to mention anything involving death, even if completely unrelated to their situatuion, as that can be very hard for them. |
