Okay, then explain why even today we use lead to encase things from radiation. As far as I know, no "radiation resistent film" is in existence in the strength needed to shield in replacement of six feet of lead casing.

Ah, I didn't notice you shot down your own argument.

According to the second site, a satelite recieves 2500 rem/YEAR.

This is less than the first category listed on the first link you posted - about 0.285 rem/HOUR.

Good job genius!

Apparently, you can't read. Radiation on the moon IS NOT THAT FUCKING HIGH. IT ISN'T DEADLY BY ANY MEANS. Reading is good, comprehending is better. You don't need 6' of lead to protect yourself from radiation levels you can be in for 90 years with no side effects.

You're right legion, but I'm talking about the VAN ALLEN BELTS OF RADIATION! I'm not talking about the moon because it is thousands of miles away. I didn't shoot down my own argument, the sattelite used for an example was within the protection of our own atmosphere. The van allen belts were on the way there and thats what I'm talking about.

They never took photos at or near the Van Allen belts. They weren't in the radiaton zone very long. According to this.
"Within these belts are particles capable of penetrating ~1g/cm2 (2) of shielding (1 millimeter of lead)."
How does 1mm = 6 feet? And the amount of time the astronauts spent passing through these belts was so minimal that any exposure to this was very short-lived and not long enough for large amounts of radiation to pass into the saturn rocket.

Heard about that severeal times but... have there been any photos taken of the landing site after the landing?

I'm just curious.

Like I said from NSNick's source, the replacement they used for the lead is still exotic even today. The reason for this is that they were needed to go to a place so alien by our standards, that they were engineereed and applied far ahead of their time. The reason we don't use it today, is like you said, all of our orbiting sattelites are in the protection of our atmosphere, so they are not needed. Plus, funding and public support is another reason why these materials are not applied again, and that we do not return to the moon.

In case you didn't notice, the "this" is a link.
I asked Legion to post those 2 for me last night, but told him to edit out that I said them. Since my pass is random chars I don't know myself, I can't log in at home I thought it might be nice to try to introduce another intelligent body into this discussion but Legion doesn't seem to care, so it seems that I am the only quasi-intelligent person (still) arguing in this thread about something that needs to be proven as much as the holocaust. It happened. Get over it. People deny the holocaust too and try to use shitty reasons to say it never happened as well. You going to believe that too, now?

Kitten Yiffer: Nope, because there hasn't been a super high-quality camera-equipped satelite sent to the moon ever. We landed on it, taking pictures of it at this point is kinda pointless since we have pictures taken while on it

I was afriad for the answer, but I do hope that someone will take a picture so we can show the proof that we have been on the moon.

I have seen even more stupid conspiracies, like the peopel who think that the extermination of Jews in Germany newer happened during the WWII. ~_~ I have meet this man who have been the camp even.

Not to try and start anything, but what about how America rounded up all the Japanese-Americans and kept them in secure places until WWII was over? Not even nearly as bad as Hitler's extermination camps, but still a little thing we don't like to mention.

It happened defenatly and you know I checked all this stuff out about like the whole van allen belt stuff and I got a good conclusion.

Ok even during that perticular week when we went to the moon it was possible for them to survive without serious harm do to radiation, but (speaking from something on discovery channel science thing) it is very possible we went to the moon. If we spent the time up there though even in those suits there is a dcent chance of serious radiation poisoning.

So this could go either way I don't know the exact time we spent up there and now I don't care enough to consider this. If we did make it to the moon no one gives a shit and no one should since it is mostly unliveable waste stuff. That no one will care about in 50 years after space travel is just there for no good reason.

Damn you lou you convinced me with bad facts when there was no other side now I am going to have to do something really unlikely like hurt you.

I actually didn't know about that, no honestly.

Any sources that can confirm that?

But then I didn't read so much about what US did in the WWII, just about pearl harbour and the a-bombs... we were mostly concentrating on the jew extermination camps. (how can peopel do such horrible things? )

See if you can find a copy of the book Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston. It was written by a Japanese woman who grew up in one of those camps, and I had to read it in high school.

I don't remember much from the book itself, but from what little I do remember, she says basically that the camps were not cruel like Hitler's were, but nevertheless they were dehumanizing. And yes, they did exist, although you won't hear the US government talk about it much. Anyway, she provides what I think is an honest and interesting account of that period of history. Read it if you get the chance

What does this have to do with people landing (or not) on the moon, by the way? Government secrets, I guess?

Yeah, that and the holocaust.

I don't have any sources to cite other than my teacher's. He's the one who told us this, and I've never really looked it up, though my social studies teacher also mentioned it.

They were cruel, and perhaps dehumanizing, but the US government suspected so many Japanese people as spies (and there were a ton) that this was the only way to get rid of them all (unfortunatley).

These camps were the exact opposite of the camps the Japanese or Germans had for American POWs. If you want to hear horror stories, these rank up there with the concentration camps.

I've met several people who've been to the concentration camps, they show their tattoos with their number on it. I've been to the concentraton/death camp at Dachau - Only one bunker remains, the rest were torn down, but you can imagine the horrible conditions. The one there now is a rebuilt one, I believe, for historical purposes. The ovens are still standing and some even have ashes left in them, a testiment to one of modern mans' most horrific actions.
