Exactly. It's a shame that a lot of people on this board don't realize or understand that.

ANZAC = Australian & New Zealand Army Corps

Today is a day to remember all of the people in Australia and New Zealand and thank them for making our part of the world what it is today.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

Does America have one of these? We should have it every day. Those soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are risking their asses and no one seems to even care! Not just Americans either, all sorts of different armies are over there. You Australians and New Zealanders have got the right idea.

I am sure their will be a rememberance day for the war in Iraq, but the ANZAC Day was over many years ago and was a huge battle to the New Zealanders and Australians death
...And i reckon that Australia should pull out of the war...

America has Memorial Day (observed May 31) and Veterans Day (November 11). Unfortunately a lot of meaning has gone out of those days, especially the former. It's not at all strange to see an advertisement in the newspaper for a "Memorial Day Mattress Sale" or something like that, as if it were Christmas or something. I think there's also an Armed Forces Day, but I forget when it is.

We have a VFW place here in town, and they have a garage sale every week. I'm proud of the armed forces of the past. These men gave it their all to keep our weak asses from being overtaken by some communist or worse government. These men were wounded, they died, they sacrificed a lot to help us, and I think they deserve more respect than they're getting. Who's with me?

(This is for ALL armies, not just Americans)

Well, ANZAC day is taken pretty seriously here. We observe a moment's silence, stores are closed for the first part of the day out of respect for those who died, etc, etc.

People even make a pilgrimage to Gallipoli, to ANZAC Cove, where the ANZAC troops fought and died during the war. Even though there's a terrorist advisary against going there, thousands of Australians have ignored it and gone anyways.

There are marches in most capital cities, and a lot of people go to see the ANZAC's marching.

Even stuff like the Football here is dedicating matches to ANZAC soldiers and such.

I'm proud of those men and women that fought for Australia (and New Zealand) but I'm also proud of the way Australia always remembers them every year on ANZAC day.

LEST WE FORGET.

It's sad to know that people are cashing in on this day, with having shops and speicals on its a day to remember what happened, not to spend money.

We've only got something like 6 WW1 vets left now. And only one who is healthy enough to make a public appearance.

ANZAC Day sales and specials are absolutely terrible. It's supposed to be a solemn bloody occasion, not a consumerist spend-fest.

Yeah, ANZAC day is taken very seriously here. A lot of us kids don't realise that though, we had our own memorial at school, and people were giggling through the whole thing (because of the soldiers/navy/air force guys marching -my friend's brother was there! Air Cadets OR because of our gay/homosexual school captain's voice), and in the middle of it all, this popular/preppy/slutty chick, Melisa Rahurahu, got called up, had to step out of the assembly, and was giggling all the way through this. I didn't participate in any marches or watch them, since i had a party to go to (anniversary and birthday).

Speaking about sales and that on commemorative days, Rugs-A-Million had a sale today. They always have sales. Everyday. I think someone should just go ahead and SHUT THEM DOWN.
