Hi. Recently, I made a vertical bonus room in my hack with the SMB3 style pipes, but when I made some vertical pipes there, it seems like the player can only enter them from the top, and not the bottom (unfortunately, if the bonus room is entered while the player has no cape, there is no way out w/o using a code appropiate for the area for floating or jumping high enough to reach each of the turn block bridges I have). I have set the pipes up correctly so that the pipe exit tiles are at both ends of each pipe, and I didn't make any end of the pipe use one of the tiles prohibiting the player from entering from that end, but it seems like the pipes just can't be entered from the bottom. At this rate, I may have to remove the SMB3 style pipes from the bonus room (I'm definitely not removing them from my hack altogether; I have a horizontal cave level with them, they work fine there). Can anyone possibly give me some help on how to make the SMB3 style pipes work in a vertical level please? Thanks in advance. P.S. If anyone's wondering, I already patched both of the patches that mikeyk made for using these pipes. |

They should work in a vertical leve, because they do for me. Make sure you are using the right kind of tiles for the pipe bottom, because mikeyk made pipe tile bottoms that allow entrance, and ones that don't. Also remember that the pipe exit tiles are not equal for both sides of the pipe, in that you need to have different blocks altogether for the top and bottom. In short, you're using the same tiles for the exit enabled pipe top cap and pipe bottom cap, when you must use different ones for each of them. Look again carefully at mikeyk's instructions to see what's wrong. (edited by Dark Ludwig on 10-22-05 03:17 PM) |

Hmm, I'm sure nothing is wrong with the pipes according to how I placed them. I have the tiles set up correctly for all five of the SMB3 style pipes, but for a moment, I thought the culprit was that I have part of two of the pipes on screen boundaries. Is that possibly the problem, or is it safe to put vertical SMB3 style pipes on a screen boundary? |

It is ok to put pipes on screen boundaries. Your problem is that, unlike the exit-enabled pipes that come with SMW (that you can enter from top or bottom), mikeyk's pipes are not like that. You have to use separate pipe ASM files for the individual topleft & topright cap, and 2 more separate ones for the bottomleft & bottomright caps. TOPLEFT.BIN is used for the left tile of a top pipe cap only. TOPRIGHT.BIN is used for the right tile of a top pipe cap only. BOTLEFT.BIN is used for the left tile of a bottom pipe cap only. BOTRIGHT.BIN is used for the right tile of a bottom pipe cap only. You cannot use the same tiles for top pipe caps and bottom pipe caps. I'm not using the same tiles for the tops and bottoms of the pipes... I just can't understand what is wrong with them on a vertical level... 'rubs his head in confusion aka something he hates to do' |

If you're using the correct tiles on the pipe caps, then you've stumped me. Try copying the vertical pipe and placing it in another level to see if it works then. If it does, remove it from the bonus stage. If it doesn't work, then look back through blocktool and everything to see what you did wrong. |
