Hurricane warning. That was fast. We just got into a watch. Normally it'll take 24hr before the warning......

Oh, and Alpha is here.

Alpha. My lord this is one hell of a season even if it never sniffs the States.

The only way I can see you wanting to stay, Anya, is that they pay you due to hurricanes closing the store.

I heard that Alpha and Wilma might met up.

That, I wanna see.

I'll call my district manager tomorrow morning to see if we're gonna open. I doubt it.

I always wondered what they did after they ran out of names for hurricanes. Kind of anti-climatic to use the Greek Alphabet though.

It's the backup plan. The problem is that they've never had to use the backup plan before since they've never gotten past W in the alphabet.

Bet you anything we'll get a Beta sometime before the end of the season. (Yeah, that's how it would go...)

And if past accounts in the season are any measure, we'll probably get to Gamma. And I have my sights set for Subtropical Storm Delta in December.

You see:

In June (1st month typically), we had 2 tropical storms form;
in July, we had 5;
in August, we had 5;
in September, we had 5; and
in October, we have had 5 so far.

November is the last month, so if this will parallel (and there's no guarantee that it will, but it's possible), we will have 2 more tropical storms after this. Then again, some seasons will have the occassional subtropical storm late in the season (or past the end of it), so maybe we'll have S.S. Delta.

I don't know, we'll see how it turns out.

But yeah, it is pretty cool having Tropical Storm Alpha form, even though this was one deadly and destructive season.

In response to Anya's point about Wilma and Alpha combining, here is a thread on a weather forum I frequent discussing the idea (the people there don't really agree with it):

http://www5.wright-weather.com/bb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49580

EDIT: Also about 2 tropical systems combining, read up on the Fujiwhara effect.

EDIT 2: Anya, in terms of rapidity in pressure drop, Wilma pwns everything else:

Hurricane Wilma also underwent the most rapid deepening for a 24-hour period ever measured. At noon on October 18, Wilma had a central pressure of 980 millibars (28.93 inches). At noon on October 19, Wilma had a central pressure of 882 millibars (26.04 inches), a pressure fall of 98 millibars (2.89 inches). That breaks the world record of 92 millibars (2.71 inches) set by Super Typhoon Forrest in the Western Pacific in 1983.

we're going to be open today. I swear, if we're busy, and people are buying games during a hurricane warning, they're fucking insane and "dee dee dee". But, we do close at 2pm today. So since today is Sunday, we open at 11am and close at 2pm. Yea, that's logic for ya.

Alpha? Is that another hurricane? How come I haven´t heard of it?

And I hope that they won´t team up. It´ll be one hell of a hurricane if the do.

Alpha was only a tropical storm (it is a depression now) and never gained hurricane strength; it is expected to be absorbed by Wilma in about 36 hrs (go to www.nhc.noaa.gov for updates on tropical weather) via the Fujiwhara effect, which occurs when 2 tropical cyclones approach each other. Read up on the Fujiwhara effect, and 2 tropical cyclones combining, just so you know, don't add that much combined strength, but they do add a bit of moisture.

People might be exchanging games for cash so that they can go buy supplies. :\

(Let's be honest... life does go on with a hurricane. Even if they won't have the POWER to run their new games.)

Yea, but then they get pissy when we close at 2pm. We have shit to do too, you know. And we really didn't get a lot of trades in, just people buying games, and one couple got two PsP(s) and games (smart, I say).

Just as long as they remember to get batteries for it... :\

On the other hand, the "CLOSED AT 2 PM?!? WTF?" thing is a little absurd given the warnings and all that. They should just be happy there's no curfew on the city or anything of that nature.

Well I hear it's moving very fast, so there will be no lingering crap or anything of that nature. Hopefully damage isn't too bad.

I'm not in the mood to write this all out, so a nice copy and paste will do. BTW, this is Anya under my fiance's account that he doesn't use.

Anya Crystaltina: its a Cat 3 now
ShishiHoukouDan: oh I'm sorry, but the correct answer was 'way-o, way-o'
Anya Crystaltina: thing is, dad might get the "better side of the strom" but if that happens, we'll get the bad side
ShishiHoukouDan: well
ShishiHoukouDan: flood surge 15 feet.
Anya Crystaltina: I'm just happy that it might not hit dad's as bad
Anya Crystaltina: but its still gonna suck
Anya Crystaltina: he's more inland.
Anya Crystaltina: but still\
Anya Crystaltina: no one knows until the eye hits shore sometime in the morn
Anya Crystaltina: and then it'll be over here around noon to 3pm
Anya Crystaltina: they also said that it'll produce more tornadoes than usual.
Anya Crystaltina: Just b/c of how its coming in from sea
Anya Crystaltina: and the dry air
Anya Crystaltina: had a nice water spout in the keys eailer today
Anya Crystaltina: but
Anya Crystaltina: the tornadoes will be "short-lived".
Anya Crystaltina: there's been warning in south and middle fla, but we've only gotten watches here
Anya Crystaltina: Last hurricane, the store had some water inside, but not much.
Anya Crystaltina: and thats only b/c there's small holes under the door
Anya Crystaltina: and I'm just worried about my cats.
Anya Crystaltina: i hate leaving them alone
Anya Crystaltina: left the TV on for them
Anya Crystaltina: but the power will go out, like last time
Anya Crystaltina: hopefully that won't happen though
Anya Crystaltina: which i could sleep through this thing
Anya Crystaltina: but it just doesn't feel right
Anya Crystaltina: a hurricane going backwards and in Oct. this doesn't happen a lot
Anya Crystaltina: but whatcha gonna do, right
Anya Crystaltina: just gotta wait and see what happens

Eh, these threads are getting kind of old. I don't keep up with the hurricanes at all anymore. It seems like there's one every month now. I suppose it should just be the norm now. We should just go ahead and give Florida to Cuba. It wouldn't be much of a loss.

Today show was interesting enough with Al Roker falling on Live TV in gusting winds outside Naples, FL. Already the weight loss jokes were coming in on that one. You know I would kinda think life preservation would take prescedence if the wind's enough to knock you on your ass or if you have to have a camera-man hold you down against the wind gusts.

Oh well. It make landfall yet? I haven't kept up.
