I wish I didn't have to be so blunt... but I fear that tip-toeing around my point for the sake of being polite wouldn't counteract all the underserved positive feedback you've received... and that my comments would crumble beneath "that guy doesn't know what he's talking about, all these other people liked my hack". The bottom line is... the 3 hacks I'm talking about (transparent mario, transparent megaman, solid mario) consist of nothing. They took neither imagination, creativity, artistic skill, dedication, hard work, nor any other value that gives the hack a single redeeming quality. I'm not sorry to say that your hacks are the epitome of complete shit. A braindead 4-year old could've made those hacks.... I mean all you had to do for them was color inside the lines. At least Big Penis mario and Afro Mario, and all those other shit hacks took some kind of drawing talent (even if the graphics were poor, they were at least drawn by the person making the hack). And as such they took greater effort and were more worthwhile than what you've provided us so far. I don't mean to dissuade you from hacking. I'm just saying you should try to actually DO SOMETHING in your future hacks. To everyone else: come on. You're so scared of being rude that you're completely numbed and have no objective sense anymore. When hacks like these get two pages of positive feedback and not the SLIGHTEST BIT of critisism, it sort of cheapens the quality of positive feedback. I mean what does it mean when you say "good work" to someone who busts their ass to make a superb hack if you're just going to turn around and say "good work" to any shmoe that spends 5 minutes in Tile Layer intentially removing graphic detail. | I absolutely must agree here, that has to be the most ridicilous hack ever. Maybe if it were 1998 (back when there were hundreds of hacks around like this) that hack would have been cool, but it's 2005 for crying out loud. | Haha... Being an asshole as well, I'll join. I agree with that, although I don't have anything against the author, I simply don't know him. So this is not a personal attack... But the fact that transparent Mario thread got stickied got me thinking like "Okay, now I don't care anymore whether our Epic Racers thread gets stickied...". I thought that was something reserved for special hacks, heh. I guess we all have different standards, but still... I wonder about some of the mods here. "Originality" must not be a cheap excuse to make hacks that require no real effort. |

| Naturally we'd want to be patient with newbies who are actually trying, but as Disch has pointed out, apparently we're supposed to be nice to every newbie, trying or not. Obviously that's not the best approach. So many beginners want to create a masterpiece before mastering the basics; if you're too impatient and it shows, we more experienced ones can-- and will-- take great pleasure in mocking you. If you learn your lesson from that and start to really try harder to show us that you are not deserving of such mockery, then great, you can look back on it later and laugh. If it triggers a long, melodramatic "Goodbye, cruel hacking scene" thread, then I dare say you wouldn't have been fit even had you not been mocked. The trouble is, it's hard to tell the difference between someone who's just new and excited to be doing it, and someone who just doesn't have the patience to get the hang of notes, composition, rhythm, etc before composing a symphony. So don't say "look what I can do", say "how can I make it better?". Then we experienced ones will pull our punches. A bit.  |

| Exactly. I wasn't trying to be an asshole when I posted that pic but I had to say somethin. I've worked my ass off on Metroid Genocide. I mean my whole ass just fell off from sittin on it workin on MetGen for so long. And after hours of levels, map making and graphics, I post a thread and get like 5 replies (6 if I'm lucky) And then some guy erases the middle of some blocks and it's like "ZOMG teh best idea evAr!! lets stiky it OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!111" |

| Now that I've started this thread, it seems several people have suddenly come forward and said things in the hacks' threads. I don't know if that's coincidence.... or if you guys just need someone to take that step before you're willing to say something... or what =P But if you guys would have said something from the start, I wouldnt've had to make this big old fat mean post.  Since after all, my beef wasn't with the hacks so much as it was how they were being received.... I mean there have always been bad hacks... that's hardly something to start a ruckus over.One more thing....
Come on.... no you didn't. I mean really, if that kind of hack peaks your interest then you must have like zero standards. I mean if you wouldn't call that hack bad... what hack would you call bad? | Disch's thread was not my reason for posting negativly (I didn't even see it until right after I posted it) Metroid is a game I love to hack and have been hacking tirelessly for a while. I saw his thread when it came out and thought "meh" I didn't really care nor thought it would get all the rave reviews. Then he says he wants to make a invisible Metroid hack and that just sent me over. |

| I made a hack of Knuckles Chaotix. I'm the only fucking person to make a hack of a game for so obscure a system. I'm one of the only people to touch audio in a GBA game. Newtrogic High Zone got 0 replies. Everyone bashed the shit out of Sonic Advance 3: Extreem Manseckz. But eveyone's really looking forward to that kid's simple graphic hacks. The state of ROM hacking outside the Sonic hacking community gets incredebly pathetic. |

I personally didn't think the SMB Transparent was anything to go crazy over. I mean, it may be an idea that you don't see in hacks very often, but just because something is unique doesn't mean it will excite players. However, I still believe that multi-talented hackers who put so much time and effort into their hacks still get enough well-deserved attention, plus the whole stickying threads of cool releases just started, and I'm sure some great hacks that took much dedication will be stickied, so hang in there Disch  . |

| Too true... I put a helluva lot of effort into COTMK 1, but either I can't put together worthwihile screenshots, or no-one seems to care about a hack like that. I don't get it, then all of a sudden some newb hacker comes along, and get 3 times as many replies as my thread, in 1/3rd the time. Explain that. Meh, I might get a better response when I actually finish COTMK... but other than finishing number 2, I don't know whether I should really do numbers 3 and 4... @GoYo: Too true, nothing much there other than a 2-bit effort.
