The staff of the Rom hacking wiki at http://datacrystal.org would like to invite all interested parties to our 1 month anniversary planning meeting. We hope to recieve input from the ROM hacking community on things we're doing right, as well as where we can improve. Our meeting will be held in our irc channel. Server irc.dynastynet.net channel #datacrystal. This meeting will take place on 10/16/05 at 7:00 PM ET.

For those of you who don't know about Datacrystal, Datacrystal is a self-hosted, ad-free ROM Hacking wiki meant to serve the needs of the entire ROM hacking community. On this wiki, you can find ROM and RAM maps, articles about specific games, utilities, hacks, and more. Datacrystal.org's articles are written in a standardized format; every page is formatted for ease of use and access to information. Our policy on articles is for them to be written in clear, concise English in a format similar to that of other major wikis such as Wikipedia. In time, we hope for Datacrystal to become a resource to help answer some of the most frequently asked ROM Hacking questions, such as the status of editors for a particular game, the availability of hacks for a game, and unique and interesting game facts that could only be found through ROM hacking. Anyone may contribute to the wiki as long as they follow our style and formatting guidelines.

We hope you'll all visit our planning meeting and give us your suggestions! if you have any questions, feel free to PM me, add to this thread, or submit them to DataCrystal@gmail.com.

This already looks so much more organized than WikiRAM. I might actually contribute to this wiki. I'd like to be at the meeting but its probably too late for me.

More organized? He wrote a paragraph about a meeting! Its the same system of that WikiRAM uses and everything. Nothing different about it.

Thanks to everyone who attended our planning meetng! Some of the issues that came up that we'd like to throw out to the entire community include:

•Support from the community: Datacrystal won't grow unless people put information into it. If you have sensitive ROM hacking information, please contact Datacrystal today!...or something like that. Seriously though, we'd like to see anyone who can contribute doing so; unlike you guys, we don't know about all the great new utilities and hacks that are coming out.

•Formatting standards: Since Datacrystal mostly evolved out of the PK Hack community, several standards in the way things are formatted have evolved, relating to the denotation of data, that may be at odds with the general ROM hacking community. If you have suggestions for how data locations/information should be formatted, please post them here, or use our http://www.datacrystal.org/wiki/Help:Contents discussion page. (Click the "discussion" link at the top.) By the way, if you ARE going to provide information to DataCrystal, PLEASE READ THE HELP PAGES FIRST. We're especially interested in what people have to say about headered/unheadered ROM addresses, and hardware addresses; since we've only worked with headered SNES ROMs before, it's naturaly for us to work with SNES addresses. Therefore, civil input on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

•Logo: Our current logo is absolutely hideous. Anyone care to design a new one for us?

This should be stickied. You've done a great job with Data Crystal so far, and I like the organization. I'm getting better at finding data here lately, and would love for it to be available to everyone, without making a new thread here (they get buried so quickly).
It was my first Wiki experience, so I made a bit of a mess at first with my pages (they got cleaned faster than I could look up how to clean them) but I think I have the gist of the whole thing now.

I mostly work with unheadered ROMS, but I like the idea of placing SNES addresses with my findings too.

I was referring to the organisation of the wiki itself. WikiRAM has a completely hap-hazard structure, whereas with Data Crystal it appears to have been planned from the beginning how the basic structure will look.

Hey... I just discovered your Wiki and it looks great! I think this could easily become the definative ROM Hacking database. I already created a list for SMW hacks, and once I read the "Help" page entirely, I'll add some info on those hacks.

Keep up the good work.
