I've updated the game just a little bit. The hammer bros and peach are the only two things that are not fully done. So here is the new updated version:

I've seen very good graphic and level hacks lately that probably required hours of work, and congratulation to the authors, but I can't help it, I just love that kind of graphic hack concept that is Super Mario Bros. Transparent!

I actually like it better if applied to the original levels. I still love to play the original levels once in a while, and it's surrealist twist to to the original graphics.

Shane you got a very good idea there, I look forward to the completed version. Did you think about doing a SMB 2 and 3 version?

The only thing is that I would like to see bricks that look more like bricks, but maybe it would lessen the "transparent" aspect... I don't know really, just some little nit-picking

Aside from that it's really neat visually, even more on a black background where it looks like a transparent "neon" effect.

The ASCII hack is also very interesting, though less visually pleasing

Perhaps add a sort of reflection near the top border? About 3-5 should be enough.

Weel I have considered doing more transparent hacks. I have already turned Megaman transparent to see how it looks and it turned out very good and I am considering Metroid aswell. The only problem with SMB2 is that there is a small white mark on Mario's GFX tiles that I can't get rid of. If anyone knows what I'm talking about then can you help me out? I could post screens of the transparent megaman and the SMB2 problem but I'm posting this in college and I don't have my roms or hacks with me.

Metroid eh? Let me save you an hour and a half.

HERE IS IT TEH SUPER DU-DU-DUuuuuu UPER METROID TRANSPARENT ZOMFG!!!111

Point made.

I'm not trying to be an asshole (even though I did spend a total of four minutes erasing the middle of blocks to make a pic of a shitty idea)

But This take damn near no effort. If you really want to make it look transparent and not look like the bird to all the graphics hackers (including me) try this.

Make the blocks look like a blank 3D model with multiple gridlines showing depth and such. Thats hard and would show some skill.

Ok.

I don't know who the h...ck stickied this, but let this be a reminder to you:

The "Sticky" feature is not a special way for moderators, fullmods, admins or whomever to express their approvement of something, but rather for posts which have common value (i.e. guides, FAQs, major editors). If you think this hack is worth stickying, 452465234 others are worth it as well, so we can just turn the whole forum into stickies. Thanks for your attention.

tl;dr: This better be unstickied. Now.

First of all this hack took me more than a few minutes or hours to make. I didn't just do it from start to finish in an hour or so like SMB mono. Secondly, if any of you were smart enough to read DairkDaiz's thread, he said that he will sticky any finished or near complete rom for a short period of time so it could grab people's attention. At least Blackhole89 explained that. Lastly if you have bad comments about it, I don't want to hear them!

Keep cool... Don't take it so personally.
As for blackhole89, I'm not sure he would vouch for that. Quoting what he said in that other thread: "Just tell me... who the hell stickied that crap? "

And in my opinion, you should lend an ear to "bad comments"... They're more useful that positive ones, and are more likely to make you improve. Unless they're just mindless flaming, but they aren't all like that.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, I guess your hack got somehow taken as an "example", if you know what I mean. One day you get nothing but praises, the following day you get nothing but critics... Things are even, no ?
And I don't think people really have anything about you or your hack, but more about the fact you got that much attention (+ sticky) for such a hack.

The Metroid transparent really looks (to me) like a "slice" of my voxel based Metroid. You guys never seen a slice of a Metroid Cubed scene, but I did, and it looks something like that (since most object are hollowed).

Anyhow Shane -26-, don't worry about the de-sticking, it doesn't mean your project is not cool, it got very positive reactions overall so I hope you are still working on it!

Edit: Ehmmm... I didn't read the "other" thread about SMB transparent before posting this...Oh well, I thought it was a neat idea, I don't read much of the other threads these days and that one seamed to stand out, so that's why I got interested in it. I never thought it deserved a sticky though.
