WikiRAM is officially up and ready for people to deposit their rom/ram addresses and rom info. we already have several pages and there is a how to guide set up for people who don't know how to work a wiki. The news system will be up soon. Exporting .XML works also.

To do:

-News system
-Import XML
-Import/Export .nl (for FCEUXDSP)

In short....give her hell!

Of course it has real potential, however, no one seems to want to add any articles

There's a lot of things no one wants to do in this scene. Like when announcing a hack, showing screenshots using the IMG tags. Or, making an innovative hack that stands out from the rest. Actually taking the time to learn ASM hacking. Actually reading the stickies before making an stupid topic about an editor. Actually hacking. The list goes on and on. This scene became poor as of 2 years ago, and thats the way its going to stay. Just get used to it I guess.

Maybe someone should sticky this. Also, consider posting a sample article so we know what's a good format to use.

Looks interesting! When I get the time, I'll post a slab of info for the Castlevania page. At the very least, this could help inspire me to work on my hack a bit more.

It seems me and Xcom are the only two who actually added anything
midget35 and lmzogelmo: your posts are stupid.
Rockman: you're absolutely correct.
I would have added more information, but those are the only notes of mine I could find.

Yeah, it's not like there's any way to... say, post things, and have others read what you've written. It would be nice if Acmlm had a board of some sort for that sort of purpose, but I guess that's never going to happen.

Except, oh, wait, you're idiots.

But dude... Now all that stuff is gonna be in a DIFFERENT place! And practically no one is going to be making use of this brand new place! You can't tell me that doesn't AUTOMATICALLY make WikiRAM better than here.

Alastor: What the hell? I had plenty of people actually tell me they wanted this. It was big long thread. I asked the community what they wanted in a rom-hacking site and they told me. If you dont like it, then don't add anything to it.

Right, we'll all just post our information here. Then a few months later, someone can just come and look at the thread listings and... oops, it's buried under thousands of threads of all different subjects with no real categorization. Oh well, they can just use the search and... oops, there isn't one. So mabye they finally found the thread, and need to add something to it. Well they can just post thier findings and... oops, that's not allowed. No problem, just post a new thread. Now when the next person comes looking for this information, they can just find the game's thread and... oops, the information is scattered among 49746 different threads and not organized at all.

The only practical way for this to work is to have a separate forum with one thread per game (with a standardized name format, like "Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)") where bumping is allowed as opposed to starting a new thread. Maybe even sort the threads by name instead of most recent post (or just override the 'threads per page' setting and list them all on one page and have people use their browser's search). Then you could simply go to the forum, find the thread for whatever game, and BAM, all the info is there. You could even have general hacking information, editor tutorials, etc... Who's with me?

It's a good start and I'm going to add my stuff next week.

What the Wiki however needs is a standardized way to display offsets. You need to define pseudo-tags to use in the edit window that look something like this:

[otbl]
[tl][td]$0000[/td][td]First Offset[/td][td]Description of the first offset][/td][/tl]
[tl][td]$0001[/td][td]Second Offset[/td][td]Description of the second offset][/td][/tl]
[tl][td]$0002[/td][td]Third Offset[/td][td]Description of the third offset][/td][/tl]
...
[/otbl]

Bonus points if the table looks something like this when displayed in HTML: http://the-interweb.com/salist/stats.php?nick=Caenum

Before you have a standardized format all export / import options are worthless because you can not automatically extract the meaningful information.

Yeah, because posting your opinion on something is totally wrong and uncalled for! I hope they learned their lesson! Giving feedback on something... HA!

I'll add some stuff this weekend (or whenever I have time), as this is a great idea, people have wanted a rom-hacking wiki-type thing forever.

The above link is still loved, though not as used as it needs to be. I hope this takes off a bit better though, the idea is behind it is sound.

Hey, maybe my post was stupid. Maybe I wasn't clear with my use of the word "potential."

Let me say it another way: I have loads of data for Final Fantasy VI, but right now I'm in the middle of another project. When I'm done with this project (as well as another small one that I've been putting off for a while), I'll get my notes together and upload them. Hopefully, by that time, someone will have made a standardized way to organize the pages so that it can be useful. But don't hold your breath--my notes come from various sources, and the level of detail is quite high in some places. Right now I'm in the mood to do hands-on hacking, so when I've exhausted that energy the documentation process can begin.

Setzer. That was just rude. The wiki's been up less than 24 hours and you're having a moan at me for not uploading anything? Where do you get off?

No reason for me to continue reading your post, as your argument kinda falls apart here. You know as well as I do that there IS a search, it's just not available to normal users and is slightly buggy, but, it's going to be available to normal users soon and the bugs are being worked out. This was stated.
