Considering the website idea. The only real way to make it work well (short of having tons of staff) is if users can upload their own programs, hacks, etc; like the commons here, but with categorization (when uploading, you select what it is, like program/hack/other). Throw in some size and extension restrictions, maybe an antivirus to prevent people from posting fake programs that are really Sub7 or something dumb like that, and some staff to go through and check that everything works and all is well, and there you go. (I'd like to make one myself, but then I'd need to learn how to use MySQL, and I'm already busy with another project. )

I've already explained this several times before...

Most of my "notes" are on paper from the pre-LM 1.0 days, which have little of interest to anyone, including myself. And no, I do not have a scanner, so don't even ask. As for "notes" on my hard drive, the majority of those are just uncommented ASM traces for objects and such.

90% of the things I look up for people I either remember vaguely from memory, find in the LM source, do a trace for, or find in my mail because I've done a trace for someone else at one point. That takes time.

Actually, I don't think I've ever heard that before. Mail them to me then.

In particular, I'm talking about this sort of thing, which somewhat contradicts what you've said:

I'm afraid I don't follow. What contradiction?

You followed that with "I don't feel like looking that up right now". I read it as "I could look it up easily, but I won't". I'm guessing that's not entirely accurate...

See, I don't feel like doing a lot of things that I do for others, but I do them anyway to help people.

That's nice, but it's hardly required that you always help people whether you feel like you have the time and resources or not. And expecting that people should always be available to give up their time for you at any moment for no reason, is simply wrong. It is, in fact, utterly selfish.

People ask me to look something up while I'm working all the time, and it's never stopped me from finishing what I was working on (unless I didn't know the answer and suddenly decided to find out ).

Interesting how you seem to just keep making comparisons to yourself... Yes HH, I can see that you apparently have plenty of time to spend on such things. Good for you. But perhaps you should try thinking about it from someone else's perspective for a change.

This again brings up the issue of tidying up your notes. If they weren't so messy, 'giving up your time to help' wouldn't be an issue.

If you don't want to post your information or if you've done such a crappy job filing it that it becomes a chore, then fine. I appreciate all the help you have given everyone already.

Fine. So I respectfully ask that you stop bringing me up as an example of hording. As I said, it's rude.

I only mentioned you that one time, and I debated with myself quite a bit that I shouldn't mention you. I'm sorry, but it just drives me crazy when someone has what someone else needs and won't give it to them, no matter what the reason.

HH, I think you need to tone down your attacks at Fu, because without exeption, he has ALWAYS helped me with stuff he knew about, and even with one thing he didn't know already (this resulted in fixmap16.ips), FuSoYa went back through the ROM and found ONE bad byte and took the time to fix it. So sorry, but you're a little far-out with what you're saying.

Again, I only mentioned Fu specifically once, and it was a mistake. I didn't account for all the people who must be bugging him 24/7 with LM questions.

Bwa ha ha. That's so freaking awesome, I'm going to italicize that and put it in my sig.

Yeah, the flaming jackass who makes criticisms and can't take them is fine, while the moderator is treading on thin ice. That's brilliant, man. You should write a book of BGNG-isms.

Edit: No, no, wait... I'm going to make it into a link. That's even better.

At least link it properly then. What if we don't use the same post-per-page setting as you? The post link feature is there for a reason you know.

Fine, fine. Fixed.

And as for you, RT, you have offended my honor. I challenge you to a duel. You and Shyguy. And Cymoro.

I can't take criticism, and yet every time someone points out a flaw in your idea, you resort to personal attacks.

What are you doing, wasting your life romhacking? You should be a comedian, this is hilarious!

The few notes I've made have served me just fine, for the tasks they were meant to accomplish and in the time periods they were meant for.

I'm not primarily into ROM hacking to spend my time building data repositories... for myself or anyone else.

I only mentioned you that one time, and I debated with myself quite a bit that I shouldn't mention you.

No, you've mentioned me twice now. In the other thread, and this one.

I'm sorry, but it just drives me crazy when someone has what someone else needs and won't give it to them, no matter what the reason.

So I've noticed. Your compassion in that respect is commendable, but there's something to be said for listening to reason too.

Hm, yeah... forgot about that source code bit. See, that's one reason I take notes well - if I don't, I'll forget them. Though I didn't mean to say you were hoarding by not posting the aforementioned code, just that people would benefit from it.

Ok we've accomplished nothing with this thread and it's heading in a different direction. Go bye bye now!
