Message boards will be spammed with n00b questions and we won't be able to tell them to look it up on Google because it doesn't exist.

That's one thing I could think of if the world didn't have Google.

7 years? I thought it was a lot older.

I've never understood this obsession with a search engine. Sure it's good, but some people just idolize it.

"omg, google is making it's own cereal now! and socks! this will be hellish on the cereal/sock industry! ive already pre-ordered a shitload of both!"

Because before Google, search engines plain sucked. Well, Yahoo's engine was okay, but Google had a new algorithm that usually resulted in bringing up the good stuff first on the list.

Occasionally I go use MSN or Yahoo! or something and just die a little inside.
Its insane how AWFUL those search engines are.
Without Google, our computer life would be very hard to manage.
I love Google and it loves me.

Altavista was the shit.

And these days, most Google searches will bring up a shitload of advertisements related (or even not related) to your search. OR, it will bring you to like....uh..these "fake" pages that are sort of like search engines. I can't even explain it but they're annoying.

Image search is very nice though.

Image search is safe, if you're using safesearch.

I must admit, I find GMail to be one of the best webmail services I used so far. And I pretty much was Altavista>Evreka>Google. Evreka was a wierd Swedish search-site that was pretty much based of Altavista. The domain Evreka exists, but is pointed at eniro.se instead.

Yahoo was actually one of the first sites I saw back in 1995/1996. Really. Thought I don't remember using it much for some reason. I remember when the frontpage wasn't that bloated...

Google might be the next software giant, and might even surpass Microsoft in size. Dunno if that should be a good thing, or bad.

What about all of the cool programs they've come out with? Google Earth is a must-try, if you haven't seen it.

Oh yeah, gmail is pretty great. I forgot about that. Google Earth is nice too, but they don't have the area where I live viewable yet.

I saw the cakes on the homepage and wondered what the occasion was..

Oh yeah, I forgot that one. Best map software I seen. And it's free. And it makes... places easy to find. Althought I wish it had more high-res maps over Sweden.

I realise more and more how important a good search tool is in this age of information.

Yeah and look how quickly it grew in 7 years.

Google is great because they're not afraid to take chances with all of their new technology. End of story.

So THAT`S why they had cakes at the site. I just didn´t know what they were celebrating.

Happy B-day google, I guess. You´ve done a great job so far.

Oh, hey. I have an idea.
In celebration of Google's 7th, we can all reminisce about the first time we ever used Google. I think the first time I used it was in my elementary school library. Our librarian taught us that Google rocked and all other search engines sucked.
What was your guys's first time using good ole' Google?
