I was playing a Mario Kart hack recently and the levels were designed very nicely. There was one problem though. The computer would go on their normal routes like in the original game. I was wondering if there is any program or tool that could help make the computer move according to the design of the new tracks, and if there has been a hack made that does have the computer work in their new tracks. I was bored and this was just a thought that occured to me.

No, the AI as of yet cannot be edited by traditional means (no editor exists--you would need to edit the core programming T_T)

Ok, thanks for the help. I'm not into the technical stuff or I'd try it. I'll just wait till there is something or anything that could possibly help.

Well, does anyone have any idea what sort of stuff to look for? I don't think that they would have hardcoded the data- wouldn't they have used some sort of data that could be edited if the course was? It would make more sense.

AFAIK, the points are defined speicificly..almost like there are "hot spots" for where they turn to etc. I did not look into it very much though..

I believe d4s found the AI information (and released it maybe? but I can't find it in any of my files). So if he doesn't respond to this thread in a bit, I'd suggest contacting him if you really are interested in pursuing this.

If he did release some information ... if anyone here has a copy of it, I'd be interested in a copy.

Ok Impala!'s making a Super Mario Kart hack, which feature new AI routes, so yeah. Can't wait for that!

All eight characters will be new, too!
Stifu's handling the graphics section, so he has some job to do.

As already posted in the other MarioKart-thread recently, d4s documented the way, the AI is coded.

Here's a link to where I host it temporarily: http://flobo2000.fl.funpic.de/temp/structure_by_d4s.txt

Because external linking isn't allwoed at this host, you'll have to copy-paste it, to access the file.

I will make my own if there isn't too much I've got to learn, I may try it but if it doesn't work out I'll just stay with my SMW hack. Oh, and by the way, thanks.

is it just me or happened the last update on that hacks progress over 18 months ago?
we all know that a lack of news for such a long time most likely means that the author grew tired with his hack and this in turn means that the hack will be cancelled sooner or later.

actually, the last time they showed some progress, they just wanted to get some attention, too.
that was the time i had just released my mario kart r hack, undoubtly the best and most extensive smk hack to date, despite its age and mediocrity, at least by my current standards.

i wouldnt hold my breath for this one.
Ok Impala!

Ok!

Unlike many people my standard is to finish projects I announce. (just look at all the projects I already did finish for example) Therefore, we're still working on this hack and are making nice progress. We don't want to show anything just yet however. It will be finished, be sure of that.

Also, my longest running project, Ancient Tales - Prophecy of Sadness started in 1999 and is still not finished. Worked on it today for example and yes, that will get finished too.

Heh, I'm the same way. I've had projects going for a few years that are still in the works. Mainly because other projects take priority. In some cases (like my SMW hack) I simply don't feel like working on them often, but I do work on them. Other times it's because they depend on another project (for example, I intend to finish Hack-O-Matic before I finish my Pokémon hack, because it'll just make everything so much easier). I just work on whatever project I feel like at the time. Probably 90% of my free time is spent working on them, so they do get done...

Of course, with programs it's another story. A lot of programs of mine have been put on indefinite hold due to weird bugs I just can't figure out. This never seems to happen with hacks.

Ok!

Also, unlike some other people here I (and Stifu) don't have unlimited free time. We have a real life too which is way more important than all those projects together. So, you might want to hold your breath for Epic Battle - Impala Kart Courses, or you might not. It won't change our motiviation anyway, we just like what we're doing with this game and I'm sure some of you will be amazed too in the end.

Heh... D4s, I have nothing against you, but when you have no idea about something, you shouldn't comment on it. As Impala said, we've done great progress and our project will certainly not be discontinued... Mark my words.
If we were craving for attention, we'd talk about it more, but we'd rather act than talk.

I could (and want to) say more, but I will leave it at that to avoid embarrassing Impala... And also because I know you've been helping us with our project, something I am grateful for. Just don't badmouth us or what we do.

I think, going along with what others just said, that it may be best to take a long time on a hack. You may just happen to think of more ideas to try out. I ask my friends all the time to see what they think. Then I use some of what they say to my hack. Yeah, and also, its best not to judge or assume by what you see is what is true. I hate to say this, but, when you assume, it makes an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'.

im observing the facts and drawing the conclusion.
i can imagine you dont like that conclusion, but you know that i wasnt trying to offend you or badmouth your work, otherwise i wouldnt have been trying to help you in the past and will continue to do so in the future if theres demand.

in my opinion, you just have to be realistic about it.
if you finish your hack, more power to you,
but you cant tell me that having no visible progress for one and a half year looks
like a promising release-candidate.

i value action higher than words, too, and that is where you come in:
why not show some recent progress of your hack?
taking screenshots and posting them hardly takes more than 5 minutes.

Actually, we kept updating people about our hack, just not here... but on my board. Since the Epic Battle thread is a sticky there, it stayed alive and so we kept answering people's question etc... You get the idea.
For your information, Scatterheart being a member of my board, he knew our hack was alive and kicking when he posted that message above.

I'm probably somewhat spoiling Impala's "surprise" by saying that, but whatever: we were planning to post something soon (as in this month) to let everyone know what's up and show a little something. Also, we don't want to post too many screens to avoid spoiling too much of our hack, so that people can still discover plenty of things when they finally get to play it.

I think I'm probably the person who's most aniticpating this game. It's going to be one for the books, y'know? Up there along with Omega45889's Zelda 3 hack, and Darhk Diaz's Mario vs. Luigi - Super Mario Bros. 3 hack.

Woah! Within the month!?
Can't wait!

And as for the no showing of the "new stuffz", just think of it like Omega's trailer movies. They didn't show any custom graphics either.

Yeah, this month or the one after... Depends on how much free time I'll have, because I have no idea what I'll be doing this month yet. I have no university right now and am looking for one... You get the idea. I'll just do my best.
