NOD32

Fully configurable
Less RAM eater than AVG or AntiVir
Pretty Silent

It's not free, but you can try the trial.

AntiVir doesn't use much RAM in my opinion. The only RAM eater are Norton and PcCillin. Anyway, I don't think that this will be A LOT better than the other Antivirus software out there, since they are all set up for the same viruses, just with other names + they all have different configurations, but I dont care about those. Main thing is, that they get rid of the viruses.

From the review I posted a while back: "Eset Nod32 scanned the virus folder in 33 seconds, by far the fastest desktop AV!"

That's from page 2. As for viruses found, it found about 3.7% less than PC-cillin, and not as good as Kaspersky or AntiVir either.

I use nod32, and it kicks serious ass...one thing about virus detection though....im fairly certain I saw somewhere that it won an award somewhere for 100% detection many times in a row...although maybe I just saw someone say it

I use Windows XP and as far as I can remember, I only had one virus: MS Blaster. I don't really feel the need for an anti virus, but I feel naked without one.

Most flawed argument for using Linux (or Mac) ever. And if Linux or OS X were ever more than a tiny niche in the OS sector (which they never will be), you'd see why.

Just look at Firefox. Nobody ever found security issues in it until it became so popular.

Both Linux and OS X does have viruses, but they aren't as widespread due to both Linux and OS X having diffrent way of running things. Problem is that most people run with a admin account for everyday use on Windows, and old programs is to blame. Security wise, Windows could compete out of the box if people didn't use the admin account for everything.

Biggest security issue is the user, no matter what OS you use. Give me admin/root access on any OS, and I know how to fuckup things rather fast.

And eh, security issues is found quickly in Firefox as it's mostly volountary people who find the security issues and report them. Microsoft is wellknown for having security issues around for months, or even years before they fix them.

Back on topic, I heard good things about NOD32 but I can't bother with it as long I have this Panda antivirus beta.

Yes, Firefox is certainly better about fixing the security holes, but it's also true that the more popular it gets, the more often they're found.
