For those who do not know what 'rotoscoping' is... Rotoscoping is an interesting process of taking live action film, editing it into a movie, then take the entire thing and trace over it. The effect is quite amazing: A cross between a live action movie and a realistic animation. A popular piece of software is Rotoshop, not yet for commercial sale and used on such films as Waking Life (a sucky documentary thing), and the upcoming A Scanner Darkly, a much anticipated movie not yet out starring Keanu Reeves. If any of you have seen the previews... Yeah. You know what rotoscoping is like. Awsome. I am looking for a substitue for Rotoshop sense it is not yet out, and even when it is out it'll probably be a Mac thing. I am running Windows XP, and know its not exactly the best for movie editing, but if any of you know anything that could be of my use to turn videos into animation, please tell me! This could be anything from a Windows Movie Maker effect plug in or a piece of commercial software. I've Googled this to death and nothing seems to come up or its for a Mac. Please help! |

I dunno how likely it is to be a "Mac" thing when it comes out. Many popular movies made these days use x86 or x86-64 CPUs and OSes (either Linux or Windows). For example, Sin City was done on AMD Athlon 64's. "No actual "film" was used in the process. Digital artists under Rodriguez' direction at his Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas, used AMD64 technology-based workstations and servers running Avid's Softimage XSI software on top of Microsoft's Windows(R) XP Pro operating system to pre-visualize scenes, create and render high definition (HD) digital composites, add visual effects, edit and produce a final HD digital master." Source here Have you tried looking for "Avid's Softimage XSI"? It's mentioned in there. It must be pretty powerful! |
