| Despite some cold weather, and having a conservative leader here, if you live in Alberta, you will be $400 richer before the end of the year, why you ask...well Alberta itself will have a 6.8 Billion Dollar Surplus and the Premier(Ralph Klein) says Everyone in Alberta gets a cheque, so yeah, I just thought I would give anyone here that lives in Alberta, that lives in a cave, or doesnt watch the news a heads up, and dont be suprised when you get a cheque. oh, and to make this so its not just a pointless thread, do you think its a good thing, or should the money be spent on things Alberta needs. | frankly, im suprised hes giving it to every person, including children, that there is where I though WTF, he does have a lot of people against him, but not in a huge way, like they just keep saying it could be spent in better places, but so far no one has made a huge fuss... one thing ill like if for is the christmas holiday(if it takes awhile to get sent, they are saying before the end of the year, so it may be closer to december) then its good for some winter clothes, and of course christmas gifts. also, the reason some of it is going to Albertans, is because since the unbugeted(sp?) surplus is so high, he wants us to get in on some of it...which is suprising coming from a conservative. That's very..weird  . I think they did try it in some sort of depression and it didn't work out. I'm surprised they're giving to to children as well. He must be really taking a risk here being a conservative. I guess they don't have much else to do with it because I know other leaders would have kept it for something else.. |

| Alberta has an unsustainable economy. There is no industry there. Only oil. And if a large oil patch is found elsewhere, their economy is going to collapse. Klein should be investing that sort of money into having new job creation like the expansion of pre-existing crown corporations rather than just tossing out there to get votes so that his alcoholic rantings won't be remembered. | |||

| only 1 problem there, he isnt running next term, so he doesnt need to get people to vote for him, so thats not one of the reasons for doing it, and we do have more then just oil, although atleast 85% is oil, but they know for sure there is enough for awhile yet, Farming is also a big industry, which brings in a decent amount of money. if we had an unsustainable economy, then why are we the only province to have such a high unbudgeted surplus? | well yeah, but that doesnt matter, theres like a 80-90% chance that we would get another conservative government here anyway, there hasnt been a liberal one for a hell of a long time...so unless the conservatives do something VERY stupid, it wont matter on votes for their party, since they would most likely win to begin with. | |||
