im not sure, this may be entertainment, but kinda thought it was general, since its not really about the entertainment itself.

in 2000, before I moved to the city I live in now, we had one of those old satellites, you know those big ones that are like cemented into the ground, and they are big and black, well im not sure what service we had, but it wasnt very expensive, and the reason I dont know what it was, is because it came with the house, and I never saw who the provider was, so my question is, does anyone know if its possible to get in canada still, and if so, who can provide it to canadians, I had it before, but yeah, I miss it now lol.

Grey market satellite dish. That's the only way since Cartoon Network isn't allowed to be offered in Canada due to the fact it would cause competition with Teletoon.

Grey market satellite/cable can be dangerous.
A guy I know did it and got it for free, and the company actually wrote him a letter saying that if he didn't pay this ridiculous amount of money, they'd take him to court.
Cartoon Network isn't that great anyways, except for Adult Swim.

There's a reason why it's called grey market in Canada. It's not legal but it's also nearly impossible to prosecute anyone who has an American dish. You could go after a distributor but not an owner, I think.

That's terrible! Why does Canada have such laws?

Because the powers-that-be (the CRTC) decided that Canada should have an equivalent Canadian specialty channel for each American specialty channel.

Sometimes this works out. Space is our Sci-Fi and it's actually not that bad. Ditto Comedy Network/Comedy Central.

Other times, like the Teletoon/Cartoon Network contrast shows, it doesn't work out. Teletoon is woefully inadequate, shows a ton of Canadian stuff since they stupidly decided to have a ton of Canadian content when they submitted their application to the CRTC, and REFUSES to show anime. Seriously. They turned down Full Metal Alchemist over the summer, that tells you where their priorities are.

Of course, this excerpt from Wikipedia might explain some of their fear.

However, Teletoon has had a very bad time with content aimed at an older audience since, stemming from the fact that during their first year, they accidentally broadcast adult content, including cartoon nudity, during a time normally devoted to preschoolers. The backlash from parental groups resulted in Teletoon cutting back on almost all of their material focused towards teens and adults.

YTV is more of our youth station (I guess the best contrast would be Nick) and they're the ones who show most of the good shows/anime. Go figure.

They don't show any real anime until they get to Adult Swim, which I think you Canadian peoples would enjoy. There's Family Guy, Futurama, FMA, all kinds of stuff!

damn...I knew there was no easy way to get it...Wish I still had that satellite, it was very cheap, although with the package we had we only got about 100 channels, but it was no more then like $20 a Year...Yeah I loved CN when we had it, and back then they didnt have adult swim, I cant remember what it was called, but they had Tenchi, DB/DBZ, Gundam Wing/Seed and a few others, but it sure beats the hell out of YTV for anime right now, and Teletoon pretty much sucks, except for a few shows.

well thanks for the info...I kinda figured it wouldnt be easy to get in canada

Trapster: They don't. I'm just saying that the most similar station to YTV in Canada is Nick.

I watch most of my cartoons on YTV... some stuff on Teletoon, though, mostly First/Second season Family Guy and a little Futurama. The only Canadian cartoon I watch on Teletoon would have to be Jacob Two-Two, though I can't remember if it's from YTV of Teletoon.
