Your school is run by total assholes. Tell them to shove it. I know a retarted kid who mad an invention for someone in a wheelchair. It was a door opener stick that had a door stopper at the bottom. He submitted it to a contest. They thought he didn't make it, and disqualified him.

Back on track, yeah, school sucks, I have teen angst, give me my pop/rock/metal, bla bla bla.

Not all high schools are a joke:

1. Pre-Calculus Honors
2. US History - Advanced Placement
3. Physics Honors
4. Spanish 4 - Advanced Placement
5. Homeroom
6. Lunch
7. English 4 Honors
8. Film Studies*
9. Physical Education
10. Journalism 2

*I normally wouldn't have elected to take a Film Studies course because I really have no interest in it at all, but my Creative Writing course only extended through the first half of the school year and Film Studies was the only second semester class that fit my schedule. Even so, the class is hardly the joke that one might expect it to be.

You see, high school is a joke for those who take it as such. Surely you could screw around and use your three elective courses to take Digital Photograpy (a.k.a. 'roam the school grounds without supervision, taking worthless pictures'), Foods (ultimate slacker course), and a study hall, but the kids who do that are often (note I did not say "always") the ones who have not a single AP or Honors course on their schedule. God willing, they'll be the fast food workers and garbagemen when they grow up. Let them have their fun now.

I'm taking something similar, but not quite.

I have Honors English, Chem, and all other top level classes.

As for next year, I'm taking Honors Band next year, along with AP Euro-Am History

I'm a junior. Next year I'll have several more "joke" classes, mainly because the college major that I'm aiming for - something involving English - will not require a science (thank God) or foreign language (good riddance!). I'm moving up to Calculus though, just because having some sort of math makes for a more well-rounded person. I've no interest nor need for it, but I'd feel as if I were missing something without it.

I had chemistry last year, Toxic. I'd assume you took physics last year?

I've got trig next year, and I've had Algebra 2, and am taking Geo now.

Yes, kids today should listen to more classical music and listen to Doystoyevsky. Then everything would be just great. I'll join the trend:

Freshman:
1- French I
2- Honours Geometry
3- Western Civilization
4- Honours Biology
5- Honours Enlglish 9
6- Intro to Business 1/2
7- Public Speaking / Gym

Sophomore:
1- French II
2- Honours Algebra II
3- Psychology / Sociology
4- Honours Chemistry
5- Honours English 10
6- Intro to Personal Law 1/2
7- Intro to Journalism / Health

Junior:
1- French III
2- Honours Pre-Calc
3- AP US History
4- Honours Physics
5- Honours Enlighs 11
6- Short Story Writing / Art I
7- AP Chemistry

Senior:
1- French IV
2- AP Calculus A/B
3- AP Government (US / Comparitive)
4- AP Biology
5- AP English
6- Photography / Modern Physics
7- School Paper

Basically the hardest the school had to offer.. I took all the AP classes except AP Physics, which wouldn't have fit into my schedule. Good times.

9th grade:
1. Advanced Science I
2. Precalculus / Statistics I
4. American History
5. English
6. P.E. / Health

10th Grade
1. Precalculus / Statistics II
2. Advanced Science II
4. English
5. World Studies
6. BST Core (basic computer skills)

11th Grade
1. English
2. Economics / American Government
3. Calculus
4. Network Administration (advanced computer class, not just networking stuff)

12th Grade
Haven't got there yet.

As for the missing 3's...I was taking an advanced science/math program during 9th and 10th grades, that held the two classes within three normal class periods. The network class is one class within three normal class periods.

I go to a rural school that doesn't offer very many classes...and it probably won't anytime soon either because it wastes all its money on athletics.

Oh I mentioned earlier in a post that I goto a Vocation/high school, i spend half my time in academics and the other time in shop there are 23 shops too choose from ranging from construction to computers its like electives but more intricate since you are learning what you need to know to get a vocational (or whatever applies) degree. Im in IST basically everything about computers class, once I graduate I get a few certifications which I can use to get a decent job in computers right outta high school or so im told.

Damned American schools and their grading system. Confusing. Since I am not American but still wish to discuss crappy schools.. I'll write this.

Anyway, I'm an aussie too, and my school is seriously fucked up. You know, they grade us with levels now instead of A's and B's, and no one understands what they actually achieved anymore. Some teachers don't even know how to use the levels either and just grade us normally which is good. Our classes are stupid, and we have hardly any honours/AP/extension classes or whatever they are.

Also: Primary School (Grade 1-7) High School (8-12) just to clear that up. And our school year starts in late January until December (which makes perfect sense to me!)

The BEST year I ever had at school was year 6, because my teacher, Mr Thomson, taught us. He actually TAUGHT us stuff. This was the first ever extension class for the 'gifted and talented' at my primary school. Oh and Priary School classes are just 32 kids with one teacher. Anyway, year 6 was the best, we learnt Year 8 and 9 level maths, science, etc. People -enjoyed- learning for once, because it was interesting.

Now, I'm in the 2nd year of high school, year 9, and the only type of achievement-based classes (as in, the better you are, you get put in a better class to learn more advanced stuff) we have are Maths Extension (there's 5 levels of it, and I'm in the highest one), Science Extension (we do the same stuff as normal scienec classes -but get more homework ), and HPE Extension (Advanced Sport? O_o There's ACE which is even more advanced sport or something like that..)

When you're in 11-12, seniors, you get to do more specific classes like Marketing whatever and Chemistry.. stuff like that.

Year 8 is like a "find out what subjects you like and revision" year. My classes were:

Year 8, First Semester:
Maths, English, Science, SOSE (history), Visual Art, HPE, Manual Arts (Term 1:Woodwork, Term 2: Metal and Plastic)

Second Semester:
Maths, English, Science, SOSE(geography), Visual Art, HPE, Home Ec (Term 3: Sewing, Term 4:Food)

Yeah We have 4 classes per day, two lunch breaks, and the classes go for 70 minutes.

My schedule so far this year:
Extension Maths (Highest Class), Extension Science, English, HPE (girls group), Visual Art, Media, Word Processing and Design (the stupidest class ever. bludge!) Geography (I hate it, forced to do it). I also have a Gifted and Talented/Extension group every Friday for one period, where we just do..stuff. Like, we're doing iMovies at the moment..

So I'm doing a lot of useless crap classes at the moment, purely because the other classes are worse. I could have done business, but it doesn't interest me. You know, with my Arts and Media classes I probably won't end up doing anything useful.. Oh well, i like those classes. I like music too, and since we can't switch classes, I ended up going to the music room at lunch times. The teacher got annoyed with my going there all the time so they won't let me in again

OMG Rin
It's so funny that we both live in Australia and we have such different schooling.
We start late january too, but we have 6 classes a day plus a lunch and recess brake, and since i attend a catholic school we have more extention classes
The grading system in australia is stupid, and we should have simple grading like A, B and C's ( like america ).

1st Period - Art II
Second Period (A) - English II PAP
Second Period (B) - Chemistry I PAP
Third Period (A) - Bible 9/10 (aka Spiritual Disciplines) (I go to a Christian school. Sue me.)
Third Period (B) - French II
Fourth Period (A) - Algebra II PAP
Fourth Period (B) - World History II (It's actually the history of Western European countries (like England, France, etc.)...and it's very very accurate, as we're using a college level, secular text book. We even learned about the Crusades, which I thought my school would censor).
Fifth period - Gym

Okay, I don't go to a public school in America, but if you're so concerned about American education, just go to a secular private school.

Teen movies ARE NOT a good representation of American education.

And not all Americans are dumb. Only the ones who are apparant are.
