Yay for obscure polls.

Personally I love the PSX's design... dunno why, it just looks so cool. But tray loaders are so much more convenient, because you can stack them. (Slide-loaders too, but there haven't been any yet. )

I think top-loading is kind of old and goofy. The Gamecube has never bothered me though, since the disc's are mini.

But yeah, tray's are probably the best and most conveinent. Slide-In's would seem nice, but I can just picture kids sticking things into them.

Top Loading like PSX. I hate sliders and trays, there's nothing that lets me know for sure that the disc is in place, with a top loader, it snaps in, everything is certain. Twice I've seen trays and the like just suck in a disc of mine before I fully place it in (bumped it slightly or looked at it wrong).

"Top loaders" are good because the ball bearings hold the CD in place, letting you turn the tray sideways or upside-down. Trays, as is evident with the PS2, must remain flat.

That, and it's true top loading ones are probably just overall much more safer for the disc's.

There's been times where I've accidently "tapped" the PS2 tray while games weren't sitting in all the way, so they were nearly broken in half.

I still prefer tray's, but they've got there ups and downs.

I like the PSX/Gamecube style because my PS2 tray got knocked off track from my baby sister hitting it with a pillow..so it does a tweaking movement when it has to go back in, not out. PSX was much safer. The tray is cool looking but no.

Top-loading! The things I don't like about the Revolution so far: Irregular, slanted shape and it's slide-in system. Frig. How well is slide-in gonna work for GameCube games, I wonder?

I voted for side-loading because those are the only ones I haven't seen brake. The top-loading hinge could easily bust, and those crazy tray loaders can get very noisey with their old age. The sleek, new side-loading is a really cool thing I'd like to see more of in modern-day technology. Its really awsome after you get past the "OMG MY CAR DVD PLAYER JUST ATE MY FAVORITE VIDEO!" and find the eject button.

Slot loaders are so convenient. The iMac's slot loading mechanism makes general life so much easier. You can eject a CD, grab it and then just slot in another. Just one button press is all you need to swap a disc.

Slot loaders on laptops are also a neat touch. On a Powerbook, there's no delicate tray or mechanism to worry about.

Top. Tray for PS2 blows...that's why people have modified their 2s to work like PSXes. Though, it's easier to jack with its security of CDs that way too.

Let see...

Top loading, discs is less likely to get stuck inside the reader as the mechamism won't jam. On the other hand, you can't place the console under the TV. Which kinda sucks... NES is the only console I have under my TV. The rest are scattered around it at home. :/

Trays, neat but I seen cases where a tray refused to open or where it's refuses to close.

Slot loaders... uhm. Probably are neat and all, but I wonder how you get a disc out that's stuck.

With less moving parts, they're probably more reliable than trays. So, you'll have to call someone to get it out, but when they're less likely to get stuck in the first place, they're not all that bad

I don't know...Create something reliable?

I'm not an engineer or any sort of person that could solve my own qualm with this. But regardless of my own standing, I'd much rather not having to juggle DVD and CD ROMs that are so easily damaged tossing them into equipment that is damnedably finnicky and likes to commit hara kiri whenever it gets the chance.

How bout the old days where you stuck the disc in a square holder, then slipped the holder in the computer like a large floppy disc. Those were fun, can't remember if they were unreliable or breakable or anything like that, but taht's one that's definately not on the list that someone might want.

I voted for top loaders as they keep the eject function easy. And HH, remember that the new PS2's have top-loading (models 700xx), so you must have specified that the models in the examples in the polls are 390xx, 500xx (i don't know if the 100xx model existed)

I absolutely hate slide-in disc loaders. I always worry my discs will get broken. This is why I hate listening to CDs in the car as well.

Remember the old trays that'd have a little grabby thing in them like the top loalders do now?

Those are my favorite. They had the advantages of both top and tray loaders.

But if I was designing my own, it'd be simply a top loader with a sliding door instead of a hinge. And padding everywhere near the place you put the CD, for peace of mind when you fumble the CD.
