My girlfriend goes to a class that has her writing a paper that cannot have any form of the word "be" (is, am, were, will, been, being, etc) and I thought that it would entertain us to randomly write posts without the form of "be" in it. The difficulty is shown quickly when you try to write out a normal conversation, but I believe it can really improve someone's writing style.

Oh yes, I did this last year in my english class. That's the most common verb in the English language, making this task very difficult. But avoiding it in your writing means you avoid the passive tense of writing, which makes it 100 times better.

*looks at post* Did I do it?

No, not that I know.
Anyway, the verb also is used very often in the german language, so it is harder for me to avoid it.

uh... the sentence 'I am a boy' qualifies as a passive sentence?

People will have more fun trying to write a sentence without the use of the letter 'e'

The number of people who cannot do this shocks me. Writing without one measly verb should challenge no one. Seriously.

So I'll switch to a different challenge now.

My class once had to write with no words with more than one syllable, or as few such words as we could pull off. I mean, it'd be a bit much to avoid using "syllable" in that last line, but the rest can be done. It's not too hard, but it does do some fun things to your voice when you write. What they call the writer's voice, not the one when you speak. Though it could rub off on that too.

It is not hard at all. I can do it with no hard times at all. If you ask me my name, I just say Pop. Some guys call me that. Too bad this post is spam.

Well try writing ESSAYS without that verb. The difficulty greatly increases.

Once, I wrote an entire fake article about how bad using the passive tense seems, but to make the entire article a big piece of irony, I wrote it almost entirely in the passive tense.
