Dr. Mario & Panel de Pon (Japan)
Dr. Mario & Pok©mon Puzzle Leage (America)
Dr. Mario & Tetris Attack (Europe)

What does Nintnedo think on this one?

Dr. Mario we all know, Tetris Attack also, but why different names in US and Europe?

I'm happy for getting Tetris Attack and Dr. Mario in new(er) versions for my GBA, but why those different names? That'll just confuse non hardcore gamer.

Okay. So the Japanese version'll be Panel de Pon, with the fairies, the American version'll be Pokémon Puzzle League and the European version'll be Tetris Attack, with Yoshi and co.

Apparantly, Nintendo doesn't think at all on this one!

Perhaps those different names are most popular in those areas.
That's weird.

I'd rather bust some blocks with Yoshi than Pikachu. >8(

I could send you the European Version, I'm getting the Japanese one myself (Oh, it only retails for 2000 Yen, about 20 US$ or EUR).

...Pokémon is more popular here than Yoshi thought. Unless I missed something.

And yeah, we had both Tetris attack and Pokémon puzzle league here in Europa. So I have no idea why they would name it Tetris attack here. May just be a fluke or something.

...i'm still waiting for Nintendo Puzzle collection for Gamecube to be relased here.

Pokémon Puzzle League was just a knockoff of the original Tetris Attack on the N64 with some improvements. This was released after Tetris Attack US was released on the SNES in 1996. We've had Tetris Attack here...Japan's had Panel de Pon and I think it's called Yoshi de Panepon for the other non-fairy version.

Or are these re-releases?

EDIT: ...Oh HELL yea...

For NPC, you'll wait a long time.. get Dr. Mario and Tetris Attack, and you have the bigger half of it. And for less money to boot (And portable). End the other two puzzle games, you have with goomba (tetris) and pocketnes (yoshi's cookie)

Dr. Mario is a port of a port (The N64 / GCN version ported to GBA), Panel de Pon.. may a port of the GCN-Version. (looks like it).

But is it going to be the same game with different graphics or ports of each game? If the latter's the case, then that's a pretty huge difference.

Yeah, but Pokemon Puzzle League is virtually unknown here (I have it. It kicks ass. Except 3D mode, 3D mode is evil and confusing and not fun).

I guess Nintendo found it safer to surf on the ever-popular Tetris brand instead of rereleasing a puzzle game no one have heard of, even though the license might be popular (though arguably less popular than Tetris when it comes to puzzle fans. And will the Joe Pokefan Average really purchase a pokemon game that says "puzzle" on it?).

Nah, I think they know what they're doing.

The other Problem could be the Tetris Rights.

Doubt that because if rights were an issue, they wouldn't be able to release it as Tetris Attack in Europe either.

Could be a rights fee situation where Nintendo could use the name, but doesn't want to shell out a fee to The Tetris Company for two markets.

1st sorry for bumping, but I think it belongs in here anyway.

1st of, if you want to play Dr. Mario only on a portable, your better of with Dr. Mario of the NES Classics or the Famicom Mini Series (One Cart Multiplayer is kind of lacking), the sound is horible, even more horible than on the old black and white Game Boy Version.

The same would go for Panel de Pon too, if it weren't the only release for GBA. All Character Graphics, specific stage and even sounds are missing.

On the good side, the complete Game Play is still there, unchanged, only the things around it, like Grafics (for the better) and sound (for the worse) where changed.

It's a goddamn 64MBit ROM! Why that horrid sound and missing characters? Why? Oh! Why.

So Budget Title means, porting good titles on a platform estaplished for such titles but doing it bad.

I somehow regret to have bought this title.

I think it's only shitty for the Japanese version.

My guess is that it's going to be what they say in the titles that you posted on the top. Which makes me wonder if you're going to get Yoshi characters in Europe while we get Pokémon in the States.

The system is relatively solid, but way too easy. I beat Endless at 99999 in a little over 10 minutes and got almost 30,000 in Time Trial. That should say enough right there.

I just found out that the game offers a 'Demo Mode', as in loading the game to another GBA via Link Cable (No Wireless Support whatever), and guess what, the Dr. Mario Demo Version sucks even more, and the Panel de Pon Demo Version, now I was positive surprised, was better than the actual game, as in, it's the almost same game as the game cube downloadable from Nintendo Puzzle Collection, only with the titlescreen replaced, but not the sound.

Oh, and before you ask, those Demo Version do not allow linkage with anything.

I haven't played Dr. Mario in a long time but I think they tweaked the scoring. I got around 12,000 points on a 3-hit combo at one point.

I think Nintendo didn't think the customers might want to have the original feeling - but "only" a portable PDP version. The graphics are not bad, but are somehow cold, without life, despite moving backgrounds. A motive is missing.
It's like a hospital - white walls. Even good equipment and doctors cannot help in a atmosphere like that.
I wouldn't mind Dr. Mario at all if I had a GBA - but I would buy the game even for PDP then. That's the reason I adore the SNES version (both Japanese and American) of it.
