Would you steal gas when prices are high? Found the artical, linked below... *continues singing lyrics to "Shinjitsu No Uta (Song Of Truth)"* http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050823052309990001 (edited by Forte.EXE on 08-23-05 06:58 PM) |

Considering how high prices are, yes I wouldn't want to pay that much but $50 is a lot of money for gas.

They're only going to keep going up, because no matter how high they get, there will still be loads of people willing to pay it. How many people here have given in and started riding bikes to work, bought electric powered cars, or found other modes of transportation? Not very many. The gas prices are something we've all learned to deal with.

Americans complain constantly of gas prices, yet at the same time, we have, by far, the lowest gas prices in the world. Sad, isn't it? |

I hate these crazy gas prices! It's $2.61 for 87 octane at my nearest gas station. |

I live next to San Francisco which, last I checked, has the highest gas prices in the country (with the exception of nowhere towns with stations that can charge them insane amounts and get away with it). My dad commutes there and back every day, with heavy traffic to top it all off. He hates it. I seriously plan to make good use of walking or riding a bike when I'm on my own. It's something I enjoy anyway, and I can save a bit of money. (edited by Yoshi Dude on 08-23-05 07:57 PM) |

Well, at least regular (87 octane) hasn't reached $3 yet where I live.

Gas in Canada has become absolutely insane. Some places are selling at $1.15/L which is unheard of... lots of places here only have 3 numbers on their signs (98.9 for instance) since we've never gone past the $1 mark. I'm glad I don't drive. |

If I could decide I would double the gas price in US. ...and oh, it's 11 SEK per liter in Sweden. And that's 1.44 US dollar per liter. And that's 5,45 USD per gallon. |

For the record: at the station near me in Japan, Y121 (about $1.05) per liter; just under $4.00 per gallon. Kitten Yiffer, why anyone would intentionally double the price of something for no extra benefit is beyond me. Increased gas prices affect more than just the people who drive gas-guzzlers; they affect everyone, since many of the goods we buy are shipped overland by trucks and through the air by planes, and all of those things require oil. Consequently regular goods will start to cost more, and that doesn't help anyone. If you or I could have such godlike powers, how about stuff like lower insurance rates for electric/hybrid cars, tax incentives foe commuting by train or bicycle (in Japan, your company paying for your train ticket is standard), or linking automobile taxes to gas mileage (i. e. no tax for a 50-mpg vehicle, but heavy tax for a 10-mpg SUV)? Unilaterally doubleing gas prices will hurt the "innocent" as much as the guilty. I don't mean to pick on you, Kitten Yiffer, but this is a sentiment I hear expressed often, and to be honest, it doesn't make sense. (Also realize that gas taxes are higher than ever before. If you're paying $1 per gallon in tax as opposed to 50c before the Iraq War, your $2.50 isn't much bigger than the $1.80 you were paying then.) |

Supreme grade (93 octane) has reached $3 in some places in the Albany area. I think these gas prices are ridiculous! Well, at least I don't drive yet... |

Yes, it's crazy. I keep seeing signs with ones taped onto them, or ones that read "¯4.9" or "04.9" or even just "104" (that's Liters, too). This better be temporary, or I'm buying an electric car. (Hell, I'd buy a reliable one anyway, expensive gas or not, but with these prices I wouldn't consider any other kind, except maybe one of those hybrids that gets like 120MPG. )Originally posted by Danielle Yep. It seems like the higher the gas prices, the more Hummers I see cruising around town. Truly pathetic. [edit] Where'd that à come from? The lowest gas price I've seen was when I went on my trip to Texas and we stopped in Missouri to get gas which was $2.03. Other than that the gas prices are insanely high.

Most here are about $3.00.. Arco seems a bit cheaper, Shell is easily the most expensive. The one by my house is $3.50 for the cheapest, yeesh. I remember when the most expensive gas was less than $1.50.. the good ole days.

The problem in Canada is that apparently prices are higher than they *NEED* to be, especially in Quebec. So it's more a case of the companies trying to screw over the consumer at the pumps.

Originally posted by Danielle $1.50 a gallon? Pshaw, I can remeber the Exxon-Mobile merger, which brough the price of gas (here) to $.89 a gallon for a good 10 days or so. It would steadily hold on around $1.20 for a while. Gas is now $2.59 here in the city, $2.69 in the suburbs. Although I haven't been there, most likely at $2.79 in Superior, Wisconsin (where it's always 5 to 10 cents more expensive than here). At this rate, it will be $3.00 a gallon for Labor Day. At this point, it's pointless to bet against it. I'm just wondering when it'll stop climbing, there has to be a high point eventually... |

I remember when anything over a dollar was considered outrageous. I was a lot younger then, of course. Anyway, I don't really mind as I rarely drive. A full tank lasts me about 2-3 weeks. When it starts cooling down, I'm going to start walking to work again. Not really because of the gas issues, but I kind of miss walking. I just got a car in February and before that, I used to walk everywhere. |

I think we could use a good spot of the gas wars right about now in Montreal... you know, when stations were selling gas for between $0.40-0.60/L. That was an incredibly screwed up time but motorists didn't mind. |

I drive everyday, I'm glad my car only costs $15 for a full tank but it eats it up pretty fast. I have to pay a lousy $15 every week. I try to keep it that way or drag out my fuel payments as long a I can. It's about $2.61 a gallon (unleaded regular) here. Don't you LOVE liabilities? (edited by Cruel Justice on 08-23-05 11:35 PM) |
